machines like that are geared towards fast trail riding, light XC type racing. It apeals to me becouse its a HONDA for one... it has all the things accosiated with honda along with it, its realtivly fast, IRS and I just plain dig it... just LIke I dig my 250R over a RINCON or any other honda utility...less a 85-86 big red 250es ATC.

Yes I love going up deep rutted out hills, that other riders sit there and say sport quads cant make it up there. Everyone that rides behind me commits on how well the irs works. And in off camber ruts all the wheels stay on the ground. :yeahbaby01:

How fast is it? Like blow away a 400? Or slower?

400 might pull the hole shot. But by 3rd gear I'd say its all over. My top speed GPS verified was 83.6 mph. Not even on the rev limiter.

Found a 08 700xx with title with full fmf for 2800 OBO.

Check out the rear inboard joints for play. Around $300 in parts and a pita to replace.

I've never had a 400 pull me off the line but the 450's usually will. That being said most people don't know how to "holeshot". If you are pulling out in first gear you are wasting time changing gears. Pull out in the highest gear that you can feather the clutch a little and still pull the front wheels just a little off the ground. Then come out with the clutch fast enough to keep the wheels just off the ground till you run out of RPMs. Then shift. BTW all this is while you are on the tank, not on the back of the seat. Anyone who races and doesn't do it this way, Have someone time you to a set distance doing it your way and then do it this way till you get the hang of it and have them time you again. It will probably shock you how much you lose by shifting from first.

When I had my 700XX I rode a wheelie past my cousin on his 400EX while he was hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear. We were riding down a dirt road and and he come racing past me, I downshifted to 4th and pulled it up, shifted back into 5th and road past him laughing.

geez....I knew at sometime this would turn into " my machine is faster than everything on the planet" thread.... and so it begins......

SYKO i don't really think that is where it is going so much as trying to get people to understand the difference in gearing on the XX over everything else. All other Honda sport quads were designed for trail riding or MX or cross country style racing. The XX was designed by Honda for a desert racer. It was designed for massive top ends but not strong bottom end.The other sport quads were designed for all around power instead of just top end. Stock for stock, Most of the other sport quads will beat it off the line with comparable riders. And I'm telling you that in TIGHT woods SRA quads will dominate it. I have owned them all some stock for a while and all eventually with extreme builds. If I was going to try to be a serious racer right now(I am now 47 and have given up serious racing), it would not be on an XX. But for fast trail riding for this old man, I choose the XX for comfort that is still extremely fast. My earlier statement about not having many people "holeshot" me was more about rider ability than the quad. If you look back you will see where I explain that most people don't know how to "holeshot" and explain how to make them faster at it. Is my XX faster than your 250R? NO. Is it faster(top end) than Most 400 or 450 class quads? Yes. Can a 400/450 class machine be built to be faster than my XX? YES. With the same amount of build on any quad can it be made to be faster than the same build on a smaller displacement quad with the same build? Yes. Keep in mind I am talking all four strokes here.
The old saying about "there is no replacement for displacement" holds true until you throw in the HP/weight ratio. And that one will mess things up every time. The XX is heavy because of the IRS. But it is still a 700 class machine. I am a firm believer that Honda has never built a quad that will outrun a 250R. Stock for stock or built for built. But as for stock the XX is the closest on top end. Overall I would probably give that award to a 450R though.
