Hello the muffler on my 87 trx 350 fourtrax 4x4 is starting to get pretty rough has a hole in the back that can be welded but i was wondering if anyone knew of a aftermarket muffler that would work and if so where can i get one and would i have to do anything else with a aftermarket exhaust or should i weld the old one and keep riding. Thank you for any info.

exhaust

i would weld it and save up money for a new performance one once it starts pitting and breaking u dont have much time unless u know some one who can piece it in with new pipe

your best bet..is to either get someone to mig weld it..or jb weld the hole. the problem with trying to weld it..is being the metal on your muffler is so old and rusty..it will be very hard to mig or tig weld without burning a bigger hole in the muffler..you should try the cold method..jb weld..if that don't work..i think you can get a cobra muffler that will fit on these pipes..some mod's will be needed..but it may work.

The cheap solution is to get a tractor pipe from Tractor Supply. Depending on which you get (there's a baffled one and a non baffled) it is a little louder, a little better performance...and only runs about $25. I got the baffled one, I think the model is f-04 or something like that. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

It's very hard to weld up a rusted muffler. You will end up burning more holes in it.

I was just looking at these tractor mufflers today. Mine is also full of holes and sounds like crap. I don't mind if its a little louder as I don't hunt or anything so the 25-30 dollar price tag is very very appealing to me. Hghgrad what bike do you have that you put this on? Mine will be for a TRX300.

I've got an 86 350 fourtrax. I'm pretty happy with the sound, and I use my quad mostly for plowing my driveway. It's not annoying at all, but I went with the baffled version. I'm sure that the non baffled version would offer some sort of performance gain, but I couldn't get away with that in my neighborhood :)

Yeah I went to Orschelens tonight and looked they have the FO-4 for 16.99 and it has a baffle in it.. Thats the one I'm going with. I don't want it LOUD just a little louder than stock would be fine, and any performance gain is just a plus, it can't be any louder than my buddies YFZ450 LOL

Just so everyone knows, the FO-4 has a 1 5/8 inlet and the FO-14 has a 2 inch inlet.

Any thoughts on what jet I'd need to go to? I have a bigger one to put in I can't remember what the size is but its the bigger of the stock jets for a 300.. for some reason a 195 comes to mind but I could be all confused. I went up one size with the air box lid gone and thought it was still lean so I went to the bigger stock jet for a 300 but never did get it put in...

I don't really know about the jet size, but there's a lot of threads on the HL forums talking about the FO-4 and FO-14 mufflers and what jet sizes they used. I would read through these threads to get an idea.

If I got one of those mufflers some how in Canada, and welded a washer on the end, would I have to change my jets? My bike has a cobra on it I think because it was loud with my old motor and my on my uncles bike it is a completely different shape, also mine has a few holes in it. and I am going to use my bike to haul deer in the fall so I need a quieter bike. What should I do? on my old yamaha i used a cherry bomb glass pack and welded a washer on the end...made it nice and quiet compared to a muffler with holes but i don't want to do that to this bike.

my pipe on my 1986 trx 350 is 1 5/16" OD. if that helps. i also broke my exhaust at the clamp so i have been riding it straight off the header. it is SO loud i can't stand it, plus its not good to not have any back pressure on it. i am also looking at the f-04 pipe, with a reducer in between. i priced a stock muffler at 422.00 thats nuts!! and aftermarket is 150+ so yeah 25 is alittle more attractive.

My muffler went south also, went to an onan generator muffler made for motor home . $30.00 for the muffler.
It has a side inlet but this one was near the end ,would have fit better if it was in the middle, had to make a J pipe to help with the off set so the muffler would not stick out to one side . Very quite set up . But I think it has to much back pressure ,as when i Rev it up The carb is making a deep sound coming from the air box..
I might have been better getting a diesel Muffler as they are built so you can look straight threw them. Gasoline mufflers normally have a maze for the exhaust to go threw.
Removed the whole honda muffler, added a pipe in its place and attached the muffler out the rear.

I've seen Onan generator mufflers that are little bit smaller than that one with the 90 degree inlet. (anything with ONAN name attached is going to cost extra $$ for the name)
AND
Farmall tractor mufflers that are about same size as a stock Honda 350 muffler that are the inline type in and out.
Just saying!

My Yamaha 350 ATV is really quiet, but the Honda 350 fourtrax has a harmonic type sound that I think I could hear for several miles, Just a weird ATV sound that seems to echo with a low pop at mid throttle.
I think maybe it would hurt a deers ear drums for several miles and might even make them close their eyes in pain. Might make PETA members and tree huggers file a animal rights complaint against Honda.
