Ok so I'm when I ride my foreman 400 it rattles.. At idle it'll be smooth and quiet. Even when riding slowly. But as soon as I punch the gas hard it'll rattle.. About half throttle quiet then.. Punch it and rattles.. Wanna say valves but I've adjusted them.. Wanna say cam chain but I've checked the tensioner.. Sounds like the head shield is loose but I tightened is.. Floor board was also loose and tightened it.. Can't figure it out

smack the muffler...lol. I bet your muffler baffles are falling apart inside it !..lol. every foreman I've repaired had loose baffle parts inside the muffler !!!. now your gonna ask me how I fixed it..right ???.lmfaooooooooooo. you really are getting your time in with me, huh ?.

#3 ·
before you even ask ?..( and yes..i told and showed in one of my builds how I fixed it !..lol ) I may as well tell you, cuz I know your gonna ask me anyway !..lmfao. first..get the muffle off, nasty huh ?..lol. now..take a 4 inch angle grinder with a very thin cut off wheel, cut the rear of the muffler off. where the very end of the muffler folds back over the end ?..this is the lip of the tail part, it sticks right up against that plug that screws to the under side of the muffler. where the lip folds back, right between the lips and muffler..cut the end off right there. now pull the end of muffler out. once it's off..turn, shake, pry, pull..what ever it takes to get the broken parts out ?. great..now you got those out, now all you need is a mig welder ( which I have )..lol..and weld the tip right back on the end of the muffler..see...that was easy huh ?..lol.

I hope you're getting paid for this for the amount of time you've spent helping him you could have driven down their and showed him how lol

also if you do this because you have taken the baffle out wouldn't it be much louder?

Lol jake he should be rewarded for the take he takes to help everyone...

And shade tree it will definitely check today.. But it sounds strictly from the motor.. I was told muffler had a baffle removed... By previous owner.. Theirs a video on YouTube that sounds exactly like mine. Let me find it

I think this is the video I watched. Mine sounds perfect and smooth at idle. But over half throttle I get that chattering sound. Valves are adjusted to spec like shade told me before haha.. It's really annoying. Sounds like a card on the spoke or a bike wheel making that stupid chattering sound..

video does not work. if you changed out everything ????..and you get a rattle when you blip the throttle ?..i'll bet I know what your problem is !!..lol. does it do this after it warms up ????????????, if so ?..then yep, I covered this at one point on a trx350 rancher I rebuilt awhile back !. I changed the cam chain, slack adjuster, valves, cam even chasing this stupid rattle ?!. when all said and done, I pulled the freaking head back off for about the 20th time ?, and got to looking at the valve seats ?..come find out when I looked at one of the valve seats ?..I noticed that the valve seats had worked it's way out of the head !!!!..I could see it clear as day !..lol. what happends is, the head heats up, then the valve seat starts to work it's way out, when this happends ? it sits there slapping the underside of the valve !!!!. I go to my bud at the Honda dealership, he tells me..'' oh yeah..i remember the trx350 ranchers had a defect on their heads '' ..lmfaoooooooooo..here I was chasing this crap for hours and hours..replacing every part I could think of ??..and the whole time..it was the valve seat in the head !. you can't tell what it is...UNTIL THE MOTOR WARMS UP !!.

No sound difference. Just gets a fweeeep sound when you let off the throttle. Sounds lame.. Prefer no cut out baffles

Lmao that wasn't a video shade tree. It was a picture and Name do you could look up the video lmao.!??! I cann see you clicking on it repeatedly

#14 ·
Never checked if it's after engine warms up. I'm Gnna go start it real quick later and see if it'll do it when I first start it

#15 ·
if it does not do it when you first crank it ?, then I would say wait until after it warms up for a few min's, blip the throttle really quick, don't hold it !..just blip it in a fast motion, and listen for that rattle sound ?.

So shade I went to start it up and half throttle started chattering full throttle the same. Idle is smooth. All this under 30 seconds cause I was about to die with the smoke

ok..then you need to just rebuild the motor..lol. you got a bad top end, and probally a bad cam chain, as well as a bad cam chain slack adjuster. you keep running it with those bad rings ?..your gonna blow that motor all to pieces !..lol.

But it's not piston slap. I've heard that before. Idle is smooth and it's smooth when slow ride. Only chatters like higher them mid throttle.. Sounds like a valve chatter but faster.. And that's exactly why I'm not running it the way it is. I hate riding smoking atvs. And also I know for sure sooner or later they'll go completely dead. Shade I've also heard loose chains before and those just rattle like crap even at idle.!! Lol.. And sorry abou the 2 post. Didn't wanna change topics of it since people search one thing and that's what comes out.. Also the chattering noise didn't just start randomly it's been like that since way before it started smoking..thought something was loose but nope. Nothing has I've tightened up has fixed it..

load that puppy up after you get the parts in, drive over here to my place, we'll tear it apart. what ever is making that sound ?..I bet i'll find it !..lol. the difference between you and me ?..is when I tear a motor apart to fix one thing ?..I go ahead and tear it completely apart !!!!..every dang washer, nut, gear, you name it ?..gets a good checking. then I replace everything as i'm putting it back together, all new cam chain, piston kit, boring job, all new complete engine gasket kit, all new oil seals, everything gets replaced !. why you ask I do this ??..simple..it's bad enough to tear it down once ?..so why take the gamble of having to tear it all back apart to replace something buried deep down inside the motor !. do it once, and do it right..or go home !..lol. I have yet..to this day..have torn a motor apart, rebuild it, put it back together..and it ever have any problems. when I put fuel to that carb ?..and get my battery charger/starter hooked to it, choke it, turn the key on..it has alwaysssssssssss started in a nano second !..lol. and runs like a brand new motor.

Lol I'd have no problem rebuilding an engine like that. But it's all in the funds lol.. Wouldn't a stretched chain chatter all the time even at idle.

#25 ·
nope. a stretched chain can rattle any time !. if you need to see what a stretched cam chain looks like on that motor ?, I show one in my trx400 build here in the DIY section. and I also can try to locate a pic of it when I pulled the front cover..it's here some where on this pc ?!..lol. I take a lot of pic's when i'm tearing a motor apart, so I can show ppl what to look for !.

#26 ·
Lol I know what a stretched chain looks like. My 450 foreman had one remember. It was 180' out.. So a stretched chain won't rattle at idle just in higher rpms or does it depend on how stretched.?? It does sound like the noise is down their in the front cover

#28 ·
take my word for it, your cam chain needs to be replaced !!..if ya wanna argue with me about this ?..then fine..i'll start charging you 90 bucks an hour...seeing how that's the going rate for a dealership mech !..lmfao.

#29 ·
Lmfao no ones arguing shade haha.. Just gets me how it only does it
In higher rpms. And not at idle like I've heard plenty do it before
