Have a 91 TRX 300 4x4 and want to change the front and final drive differential oil. It says use hypoid gear oil. I found some at a local automotive store but not sure if its suitable. One the front of the container is says "Extreme Pressure Gear Oil, SAE 80W-90, limited slip" then on the back it as its for moderate and severe service with hypoid and all other gear types. Sounds right to me but wanna see what you guys think.

amsoil also runs a synthetic gear oil. i believe its 75w-90. not positive though. i lucked out and got 5 quarts free! so im good to go for a while. i honestly dont see the point in synthetic gear oil. i dont understand why one wold worry about the oil being synthetic or conventional cause all its doing is lubricating gears lol

I will never use synthetics in my crank case with clutches but for a rear differential, absolutely, first off, it reduces friction by 50% or more, also, it lasts eons longer then conventional motor oil not breaking down and does not deteriorate rubber seals like regular mineral oil. It stays the same viscosity whether its 30 degrees out side or 90 degrees, meaning it circulates immediately, Rear diff will last virtually forever with this stuff in it, provided you don't get water in it swampin your quad all the time. Its actually pretty amazing stuff, i've been running Castrol Syntec in my automobiles since it first came out, I think around 6 or 7 years ago. A lot of research has been done on synthetics, most people have no idea how advanced it is.
