I have a 98 foreman with no spark. I verified power going to the CDI and evidence of the trigger working. Not sure how the stator fits in to the ignition system, but it doesn't look like I am getting any signal from the stator. Would a bad stator cause me to have no sparK?

The source coil and pickup coil are in the stator so yes if youare not getting proper resistance readinsg out of the stator (on the coils) then you need to replace it. The stator itself actually provides the power to the bike while running. I had a similar problem with my Yamaha which had really screwed up resistance readings out of my source coil. Replacement of that stator assembly, which was really easy, fixed the problem and I have a super blue spark now with no problems. I found a good one on ebay for only $36 shipped. don't forget any gaskets you may need also - I haven't done a stator job on my Honda yet so I'm not sure what all is involved.

it's set up about the same way bro ?..parts are just in different spots..thats about it ?. other than this ?..they all are set up the same!.

I downloaded a repair manual, life saver, the stator is good as is the trigger coil. The ignition coil checked good, so I am going to replace the CDI pack. Thanks for the help. Stan
good to read !...git-r-done !.

Yeah, it's still broke. I replaced the Ignition control unit, at $100+ dollars. Still no joy. I'm not getting a warm fuzzy with the alternator input. I have tried applying lawn mower stator testing and I only get about 5 - 6 volts ac across the legs. None of them are going to ground, but their resistance is at about 3 ohms. The book says .1 - 1 ohm. Then the book says that if the resistance is far beyond standard, the stator should be replaced. 3 ohms doesn't fit my definition of far beyond. Has anyone had any similiar experience?? Has anyone every tested the stator for output?

i do not know what your spec's call for on your stator ??..i've never worked on one with a bad stator ?. if i had to guess ?..i'd say your stator is bad. you may..or may not know this ?..but stators in these have 2 charging sides to them !..one takes care of your lights and recharges your battery through the reg/rec..and the other side of the stator is what sends signal to your c.d.i..then onto your spark plug coil...then spark plug...all of this takes place through your pick up coil.
