Hello community!
I've been having some hard time figuring out what's the problem with my good old 2006 trx350 fm not starting properly every time.
Finally I think I found the problem and thought I would share it here. So here it comes:
Most of the time it starts normally when hitting ignition button. However, if I try to start with either headlights turned on, or breaks on, it just clicks and won't cranck. I've already checked the ground wire, seems ok with about 1-2 ohms. New battery didn't help.
Measured voltage with and without lights. Without over 13, with drops to 12,5v.
When running voltage is good. Idle without lights over 13, with lights drops again to 12,5v.
Starter spins good and no extra noise or nothing.
Since the solenoid click is always present, I thought the problem was something else, like not enough volts or amps getting to starter. Finally I tried the classic screwdriver between solenoid ends. What a surprise! Starts immediately even with breaks and headlights turned on.
So, next I will order new solenoid...
The answer is not always the most obvious one. Even if it clicks, it doesn't mean that the solenoid is working properly.
Just my five cents..
And sorry about my crappy english.
Hope this helps someone struggling with starting problems
