I got a 96' TRX 90 passed down to me, free if I fix it. I cleaned the carb and the engine looks mechanically sound but the motor still won't go. Its either the spark plug - probaly is but I did check it and clean it, this yellow wire that I have no idea what it goes to, or the pickup coil needs to be fixed but haven't checked it out yet gonna find out what this yellow wire goes to first.

I don't have a picture but it goes from the engine and its longer than all the other wires, its completely yellow and has a wide flat end. I have no idea where it goes? I looked for slots to put it in and wires to put in it and don't know. Trying to get this running without putting money into it so I didn't want to buy the manual lol. Thanks!

Free if you fix it? How much if you don't fix it? ;)

You really need to get a pic of it before anyone guess what it is. Well, I could guess, but I doubt that would help.

Whats the other end connected to currently?

I had to go get batteries for my camera but here we are -







This is where the other wires from the engine connect to, they are a lot shorter than the yellow wire so I suppose the yellow wire goes to the black wire harness box but IDK!

more than likely..it's from the stator..and it goes to the rec/reg.

I think that wire was an extra I can go look on mine in a bit and confirm that for sure. I believe it would go to a rgulator but these quads donot hav a head lamp so I don't think it was used? don't holed me to that. Be back later

yup..it's comming off the stator..and it would of ran to the reg/rec...also..i can see in the pic that the right side ( clutch side ).looks like there has been work to it before you got it..cause i see a new gasket..lol

I've been messing with it since this was originally supposed to be a parts bike for a 1998 TRX 90 that I had but I sold the 98' and now I got I got this one left so been throwing parts on it I've been getting for free from my neighbors lol. Once its going I am selling that and my KX125 to get a TRX450R or a YFZ450. Still haven't decided which but kinda leaning towards the YFZ.

Thanks. I think there's a rec reg in case someone wanted to install a aftermarket headlight or horn I'm pretty sure.

I've tried to locate a wiring diagram, but every diagram that I've found for the TRX90, no matter what year, only has two wires coming up out of the crankcase and one is from the pulse generator and the other is from the stator. I couldn't find a wiring diagram for the '95, but I found one for the '96 and it only shows two wires coming up out of the crankcase from the stator and pulse generator.

That's whats weird about the internet. I searched high and low for diagrams, couldn't find anything. Then I found a thread that you - HELMUT solved the problem to and I decided to join this forum to help solve my problems lol.

Is the rec part of the CDI or is it attached to the cylinder?

most yellow wires on honda's comming out of the case ( stator side ) come from the stator..the pulse generator ( pick up coil ) ..most of these are blue or black..if my memory serves me right ?..i could be wrong..oh well..chit happends..lol.

the reg/rec is on the frame..should be on the side behind the seat..don't know which side though ?

I found all kinds of diagrams but they all just had 2 wires coming up out of the crankcase. You can go to this link and download the TRX90 manuals and they have wiring diagrams in the back, but I couldn't find one for the '95.

It should have cooling fins on it.
