86 is on its own, 87 - 89 are the same... What year are you looking for?

It seems you haven't done your research as the info is on this forum :)

Hi Sam, I think I've read just about everything pertaining to it here in the forum. It's an 86. Honda shows part # 38710-HA7-671 as fitting 86-87, and #38710-HA7-651 as fitting 88-89. The difference being the later model incorporates an overload to cut fan power if the fan motor seizes. They are wired identically on all models. Either should work. Unless I'm missing something.

I stand corrected, you have done your research :)
Unfortunately this forum has gone downhill since a platform change. Your best bet is to join a foreman page on Facebook now, many members have left here and won't be returning.

I have 2 86s—you can find these used and occasionally NOS.
What’s wrong with yours?
I have rejuvenated a fan control unit by heating them in a 200F oven for minimum 3 hours. No hotter. Longer is better. Leave it in there during warm up and let it cool completely. Let that circuit board relax back into the potting. Clean and contacts and coat with thin film of permatex dielectric grease

On mine the warning light comes on and off at will (usually on) even when cold, and the fan starts and stops erratically for no reason as well. Jumping sensor wires has no affect on anything. All wiring is perfect. I will try your oven fix. I have nothing to lose. There is only one on ebay now, and it doesn't inspire confidence. I figure more will turn up in time, but in the meantime I thought I'd check here. Thanks Goober.

Hmm have you done a resistance check on your oil sensor? Does your oil light come on momentarily at “ignition on” and then go out?

when you ground the temp sensor lead, does the fan come on steady?

There is a diagnostic procedure to help isolate the FCM but maybe you haven’t done it yet. like the fan module works but the sensor doesn’t?

Oil light comes on and stays on most of the time. Sometimes flickers or goes out. Grounding sensor lead has no affect on anything. Fan starts and stops at will. The module is definitely wacky.

Hey Goober,
I have to tell you I was skeptical, but I baked my FCU exactly like you said, and it now works perfectly. I have no idea how or why--- it has never been wet, etc, but somehow this fixed it. THANK YOU. My hat's off to you!

You’re very welcome
Condensation can occur anywhere
Wouldn’t surprise me that the 3 hours I recommended is the minimum amount of time it needed—mine was rejuvenated but I expect might have to do it again someday.
This drying method is also good for CDI and other modules
Ride on!✊?
