With the weather getting warmer I have been in the garage wrenching on my Rincon.
A reminder that this is my first ATV.

I bought this mainly to plow snow with since we moved to the mountains in Colorado at 9200 feet.
It will also be used to go get the mail in summer, 3 miles by dirt road, 1.7 miles using the short cut through the woods and ride around our mountain subdivision.
There are some off road trails in our subdivision. One trail take's you to the top of the mountain behind our place to just over 10K feet.

I bought this ATV in December 2017 with 2600 miles, 234 hours.
It had a title from Arizona.
New spark plug installed.
Oil was changed before buying it.
Tires were like new.
Some body wear from tank bag and brush rash.
Underside had some scrapings but nothing major.
Tie rods and ball joints OK.
Under the body plastic lots of desert dust.

I knew it would require some work to bring it up to my standards.
The carburetor was not right but it ran OK.
The brakes worked but could be improved.
It got me through the winter to plow snow with.

The only mods to it were a Big Gun Exhaust and a K&N air filter. Not crazy about the loud exhaust.
The rest was untouched when I disassembled things.

I have rebuilt the carburetor.
New front bearings, seals and brakes.
New rear brakes.
Changed all fluids.
Adjusted the valves.
Installed a winch and plow.
Repacked the Big Gun muffler to get it quieter. About a third of the packing was burned out. It helped but it's still loud to me.
A thorough going over the entire machine and cleaning.

The carburetor needed a diaphragm and jetted.
Stock pilot jet and a 134 main jet in it now.
The main jet was a guess on my part from researching online.
I run it with the air box lid removed.

The right front bearing started squeaking this summer from riding it around so I checked it out.
The bearing was shot and grease everywhere ruining the brake shoes.
The drum seal on that side when installed from the factory was rolled under for about 2 inches.
I know this was done at the factory due to the factory bolts for the brake plate still had the yellow factory thread locker on them.
The brake shoes were original. They had the yellow paint on the shoes and springs.
Even though the drum seal was not installed properly there was no dirt inside the drum.

The differential fluids looked like new.
I changed them anyway.

The valves were a little tight. To be expected IMO with that many miles figuring they were never done.

The plow I installed in January in the garage. Cold. My garage is metal building, 40 x 36 with a high roof and no insulation.
Hard to heat with the propane heater I have, not big enough.
All electrical was soldered and shrink tubed.

It runs good.
I can spin the rear wheels in 2 wheel drive from a slow speed by nailing the throttle.
I will have to check the plug color in a while to check the jetting and carb. settings.
The trans shifts good with a solid lock up.

I hope it stays dependable without having to start replacing parts and spending money.
Plus the wrenching part is not my favorite thing anymore.

Being a previous motorcycle rider and dirt biker for a short time I'm looking forward to riding this ATV.

You’ve been busy! Do you plan on fitting the airbox lid when you use the ATV? I know of people who have left them off in the past and covered the top with a pair of ladies tights/stockings. Not my idea of a proper job but it works to a certain extent.

Any pictures of your build before, after and along the way?

I've been wrenching for years.
First car at 15 1/2 years old had a blown motor, so I rebuilt it.
Used to race a 70 Nova, 1/4 mile in the early 70's.

It's not only the money but knowing it's done right and not having to deal with paying someone and then deal with poor work.

It really is the way to know a machine and looks as if you did a tremendous amount of work.
Agree.

No pictures of the work in progress.
The air cleaner has been run with no lid, open top.
Where we live the roads are dirt but this area is all granite so the dust from driving is not like a typical dirt road.
I do top notch maintenance on all our stuff.
Still do 3 K mile oil changes on our vehicles.
Drove my last truck for 21 years.

Check out this thread I posted about putting a car muffler on my Rincon. https://www.hondaatvforums.net/foru...-automotive-muffler-adapted-my-03-rincon.html
