I have a 2012 Rancher 420 (p/s, i.r.s., e.s. so the FPA?) that won't shift into reverse properly. I've already ruled out the cable and downshift button on the bars as it will upshift into drive and then downshift into neutral. I can take the manual override wrench, push reverse button and pull the handbrake while pulling up and the wrench and make it go to reverse. When I do this however the indicator flashes 2 long times and 3 short times. The machine stays in reverse but won't come out until shut off. Any ideas on what could be the problem or what the code its telling me is? I'm new to electric shift fourwheelers so I'm at a bit of a loss with this...

Have you tried rocking it back and forth while trying to shift. It worked for me before. Also if yours is like mine you may wanna check the insulation around the reverse sensor wire.

I had a loose connection to the rectifier a while back so the battery wasn't being charged. I lost the ability to downshift first, then lost the ability to shift at all. I used the emergency manual shifter to try to get it back to the house and it eventually died on me, cluing me in to the battery situation. Before you do anything, make sure you have a good strong battery and charging system. Once you're sure that's good, move on to the other suggestions.
