I own an ‘04 Foreman 450S and it has a winch that never worked since the day I bought it. (3rd owner). I want to buy a new one but forgot to check size etc. before I left the lease last week. I want to be able to take one down next time I go.

Can anyone give me a recommendation of what winch would fit and a name brand/ratings etc?

New here so hope I’m at least close to the right section.

Thanks!!

warn pro vantage 2500s, and a kfi winch mounting kit, its ready to bolt on, simple if you take your time. pricey though !..lol. i only use nothing but warn, and nothing but this warn model and mounting kit. ( this warn model uses synthetic rope, good stuff..love it !. deff get a roller fair lead with this warn !, don't waste your time with a hawse fair lead !!!!!!!.

I have a superwinch 2000lbs on my 300, it does the job but 2500 to 3000 would be much better. The suggestions above are spot on however, if you can get a 3000lbs that is a similar size to a 2500lbs I would definitely go that route if you plan on winching often.

Take into consideration that I ride in deep mud (fender/bars deep) 75% of the time, you may think 3000lbs is to much for the use you intend.

if you don;'t think your going to use it much, a super winch lt 2500 will be a great winch for you, if you get stuck DEEP and often, I would up things to a 3,000 lb winch
IMO, super winch makes the best winches for the price, value for dollar
, nothing wrong with a warn winch, but there price, IMO over paying for there name
seen just as many warns have issue's as super winch
BOTH have had bad one's l;eave the factory
and BOTH are known for solid quality line winches and GOOD customer service!
just one costs a LOT more
they BOTH now have a cheap o line of winches and then there premium line

yet still a big price point difference between the two name brands?
your money spend it as you like!

I'm confident a Warn winch is a great product and had one on a old F150 for years. My current Honda dealer sells KFI and I have used them for years with great success. As for winch life, I do not take my ATV swimming, light mud, occasionally snow plowing, etc., so the winch itself is really not "abused" per my riding style. I have no reservations owning a KFI and got this one on my Foreman, https://www.partsgiant.com/p348410-...vfm0ifCm5JTYFoXczksG6bB7TPQDwf_AaAsKlEALw_wcB along with a synthetic rope. Personally, I would get one with a synthetic rope vs. cable for safety reasons.

shade I have been in the off road world a LONG time and I have honestly seen ALL brands fail at times, warn included
my one super winch is 20+ yrs old now and still works like it did new, and its seen a few hundred thousand IN's and OUT's over that time frame
not sure what more one could ask of a winch?

but Honestly IMO< NOTHING is made like it used to be, WARN products included
like many company's they live off there OLD rep!
from what I have read super winch is the number one selling ATV winch, and I DON"T see many if any treads about a bad one. here or else where, any more than I do on Warns?
just there less $$$, NOT the name that is selling them, but quality and price IMO! LOL

not bashing Warn's, just there price tags!

I’ve been running a 3500lb KFI stealth winch with the synthetic cable and a KFI winch Mount on my ATV the past 3 months and have had no problems with it. Haven’t found a hole it won’t get me out of. Feels like a really solid winch for the price IMO. Can’t speak for the long run yet though.

I used rope for years on my shrimp net frames and no problem , but I was only putting 25 ft of it on the drum , when I started using it on the atv , I had a problem with it being able to smash flat and then if you don't watch it , it piles up on one side and becuase it gets flat it gets caught in between the drum and mounting bracket , very hard to get out ,and it damages the rope when it happens , once had to remove the winch from the atv and take the winch apart to get it out , and then found it caused damage to the winch -------- as long as you can see your winch and keep it spooling correctly you won't have a problem , if you ever have to replace the rope , don't buy that rope from Harbor Freight , it is junk , Spectrum is a good rope , can be gotten at a marine supply

Not sure how familiar you may be with a winch and passing this video along as tips on techniques as well as some items you may consider buying while shopping. For example, you may decide to get a strap for an anchor point, snatch block, D hook, cable blanket, etc.

That video should have included when done with your winch activity you should un-spool your cable and re-spool without tension on it. That way you can be sure it spools correctly and be all set for the next time you need it. Not good when your rear-end is off the edge of a steep cliff and find your cable is jambed up...
