So I added a winch to my Honda 300 Fourtrax… you guys helped me with that...
The winch was great for snowplowing but took some getting used to the switch and which way did what... so I hit the top side that let more wire out but no place to go so loosened the coils on the spool, then tightened... Backlash! Just like on a baitcasting reel!
The harder you pull the worse you make it!
Any tips for getting this out? I put it on freespool and got out the wire I could then tried to pry the wire out of the coils... no success so far!
Help!

I hook mine to a tree and back up. If you want to save your cable for winching out your machine, use an old seatbelt with your winch and plow in the winter, the belt winds better around the spool with the repeated in and out....

I'll try hooking to a tree, worth a shot!
Great idea for using a strap I'll look into getting a boat winch strap and putting on there. I don't expect to use the winch much other than snowplowing. I basically use the ATV like a tractor... I could leave the strap on permanently...

Yep, hook to a tree, power out on winch switch while backing up the wheeler.

Hooked up to a tree... backedup, started to power out some cable and POP, the cable popped right out of the cables it was squeezed between... coupla more pops then I let it keep paying out then rewound it, lot simpler than I though it would be!
