Hi, this is my 1st bike that I am trying to keep up with the maintenance & fix with the help of others. I have a ATV 2016 Honda TRX420TE1 I am currently reading the service manual, looking up on Youtube but still can't seem to figure it out. I am reading about how to read how many times the display blinks when I turn the key. It won't shift gears, I finally learned how to manually shift with that bolt by the shift motor but that's about it. I'm just stuck & give up. I feel like the fuel pump is going out as well.

Welcome!
How long have you had this quad? Has it ever shifted well for you? Did you select the down button while trying to get the up button?

Don’t know how old the battery is? I would load test the battery or, if you know it’s over three years old, buy a new OEM or equivalent.

If you’re positive battery is good, Sometimes you can free up a binding shift motor by adjusting the clutch as per service manual.

If these step don’t work there’s more.

Drain the fuel tank and try some ethanol free premium with a little Seafoam gas treatment

Let us know how if it worked and we’ll go from there

welcome to the site
can you tell us more about this atv
how many miles/hours on motor, any mods?
as for shifting, and codes, you HAVE to have a very good strong battery , or things might not work well , or at all!

so, without knowing your battery is GOOD(load tested not volt meter reading) you cannot really go further, as to problem solve you have to rule things out ion sort of an orderly way, first need to know GOOD power supply,
then after than can move to next test and so on!
and then back to info on atv/miles, hours, mods, how its been used or NOT, atv's that sit often can have as many or more problems than one's that get used often or hard!
so, more info you tell us about atv, better we can help you in return!

The display only blinks when there are error codes, your display should come on and show a full screen with all the dash lit up for a second and then your gear location and speed shows up,which is zero, and hello honda shows up on the bottom.

Your going to need to count the dashes long and short, might take a few times but you will end up with, ex 7 long and 3 short, that is a code 7-3 in the manual.
