its a 1991.



thanks we listened to the guy at the shop and bought a new

piston and bored it out to find out that the guides were all broken to pieces under the valve seals

Yeah, the 250X and 300EX heads will interchange and yeah, the valve guides can be replaced.

Agree^^^ the only thing though is the valve covers are different. the 300EX valvecover dosen't have the decompression lever but they will still fit and function you will just have to kick harder.

I've never replaced any valve guides, but here is the procedure. I needed to replace them a couple times, but I ended up just getting another head.
