I'm due to change the rear swing arm bearings on my Trx300 fourtrax. I've searched on eBay and different sellers show different bearings, taper roller and ball bearing.
All the companies/sellers show the same model year so I'm a little unsure wether it is possible to use either type of bearing or if they have the model date/year wrong or possibly the image.

Can I use either or is there a difference in year?

I agree with you there Fish. I've come to the conclusion that most of the internet sales companies are selling Chinese 'junk' at the same price or more as a branded part just to stay competitive online.
The two companies I've found both types of bearing with are bearing manufacturers so I'll give them a try and see how they hold out.

What type of bearing to Honda fit from the factory, taper roller or ball bearing?

Thanks for the advice regarding the retaining nut tool Mike. I did wonder how difficult that may be to remove, doesn't look like mine have been changed for a LONG time!

Thanks shadetree, if something is usually a bit stubborn I get it warm with the blow torch, bit of heat always does the trick :) or as you say, a good old hammer lol.
I'll try good 'ole eBay for an Allen key.

Thanks everybody ;-)

don't need heat, a 17mm allen wrench, and a 3ft cheater pipe is all I use, I break them loose every time :). oh, and your welcome. you can get the 17mm allen wrench at harbor freight if you shop there ?. as I said, bought mine at sears awhile back.
Awesome, I'll give it a whirl when the bearings arrive. I ordered an Allen key (wrench as you say lol) and an Allen key socket for my 1/2 inch ratchet/bar just incase I needed more leverage.

Wow.. This got to be quite 'in depth'! Lol.

So, would you guys opt for taper roller or ball bearing? I'd have never thought about the frame spreading in all honesty.
Don't worry though guys, when I mentioned the 1/2 inch socket Allen key that was to undo the nut, not refit, it looks like it's not going to come of without a fight!
great advice Fish with the torque settings, thank you.

Haha.. 'a royal pain'!! Made me chuckle that did shady

Well I haven't taken it apart as yet Dad, it's just got that 'look', you know the one where you think, hmmm, this could be a bummer of a job!

What's caused it is steam cleaning the damn thing, don't think it's ever been washed so many times in its life haha.
Was held together by mud I think and now I'm finding myself changing a bearing after every outing! Nearly changed them all so should be grand soon :)
