I bought it used, think it's a 2007 or 2009 Foreman 500, can't recall exact year. I've had it two years, no idea how long previous owner owned this battery. I have had it at my land, it has had no battery tender on it and, in fact, I have never charged the battery, it has cranked just fine. I went to start and it just clicks. The connection seems secure. I tried to jump it, no luck. Not sure I got a good connection, there's not much to hold onto! It has enough juice, the screen lights up but now, after several tries, it doesn't show which gear it is in, so, I maybe it just barely has enough juice to run part of the screen? Anyway, it clicks so maybe it's just a bad battery? Walmart and Tractor Supply are handy, if I need to go to a dealer, that's a bit more drive than I'd like to do but I will if I need to. Where's a good place to buy? BTW, I couldn't even get one of the bolts out! I got one out with a 10mm socket, it seemed to fit. I am going to take some spray for battery gunk and see if that doesn't clean it up a bit more so it will take a socket for the other one. They should be same size bolt? Does it just lift out or is there some trick to removing the battery? TIA!

first of welcome to the site
as for battery, I stick to brand name battery's and AGM batterys too, they come pre charged, but can be stuck on a tender to top off
NEXT and this will be a problem for you, ALL modern atv's draw power when parked, so if the atv sits often and is NOT on a tender, as time passes your battery will get weaker and weaker, you might want to look into some options, be it a solar powered tender, or a battery shut off/disconnect, this way your not always having a low battery on atv when you go to use it.
it takes a bunch iof riding to recharge a battery that way too, so again, if atv sits often or gets low use, your going to have battery problems if you don;t take steps to prevent things
another option is, take battery out and take home with you, and keep at home on a tender,
now to answer a few other questions
ONE< the HEAD of the bolt on MOST atv like battery's is 10 mm, but NOT all, and that also means TREAD size of bolt can be different(its NOT 10 mm) so, I wouldn't just expect any 10 mm headed bolt to fit, might be too long, or too short, or wrong treads on it
BUT most new battery's come with new bolts, so shouldn't be a issue!

as for battery, yes
just disconnect as a normal battery install and lift up battery out of battery tray, and drop new one in

NOW some other tips I might suggest if being left at a hunting camp
one DON"T use ethanol fuel, your asking for fuel issues and running issue's
TWO, maybe get a exhaust plug and plug exhaust to keep mice out of exhaust
Three, get a LOT of moth balls and place them all over ATV IN ATV< UNDER atv, to TRY and help keep mice away from ATV, DON"T cover ATV if parked indoors, your inviting them doing so!
they will chew on wires and caus e you all sorts of issues!
JUST remember when you got o use ATV again, remove exhaust plug LOL
FMF makes a very nice rubber one size fits all deal, comes in very handy for washing atv's and motorcycles and other things too, worth the 10 bucks or so they costs and will last a LONG time if not forever!

Thanks much for your detailed post, I learned some things! For a battery shutoff, is this a part I can buy or is this a mod that needs to be done from homemade parts? What about a solar charger, you got any recommendation? Will solar work in the woods with no direct sunlight?

OK a battery disconnect is something you can buy they come in many shapes forms and prices,
here is a cheap one
or like this

as for recommending a solar battery maintainer, NO I cannot recommend any, as I don;t use them
but many people do
THEY will require some sunlight every day to hit the panel, most have a 20+ ft power cord to help allow for it to be mounted in places that get some sunlight

if this isn;t possible, I would maybe just suggest taking battery out and taking home with you and keeping ona tender, it only takes a few minutes to re install a battery, and then you will always know its fully charged when your there!

they cant work as well without direct sunlight. how much charge you lose i cant tell you. IMO
maybe a bigger solar panel might help, or two wired in parallel . i got my electric fence solar panel facing south. now i am wondering about that. it is at a tilt

I always use Yuasa batteries however any good known brand should be equally as good. 90% of the battery lead bolts are 10mm but sometimes fitment/accuracy is poor, a single hex socket would be the better option to remove the bolt.

With regards to a battery disconnect (shut off) switch, I've always used the following, see link below...

i got 6-point sockets an 12 point. 6-points are better for non-slip.and will save bolts/nuts/money..
Now about that Battery stickie; my writing is some coherent at times, my spelling less so.. just a thought, led
