im guessing you checked the rear brake isn't sticking?
The rear end is the same set up as a 350D and ATC250ES, I'm sure there's a thread on here if you search, if not there should be some kind of tutorial on YouTube.

rear brakes are seized ?, or it's not in neutral while trying to spin the rear wheels ?.

Just to add.. You'd be quite unlucky if the diff itself has broken, these rear ends are seriously tough.

Howdy new member. It's definitely not in neutral if the wheels don't turn. Maybe some more information? I am imagining a quad that sat unattended since 1988 with no oil in it, maybe on it's side, with barn owl doodoo and cat wee, and maybe some parts are sticking inside? Help us out...

If you're able to change the condition by changing gear position it's more likely tranny than diff.

Do you have a service manual?
