I've just been given a set of 4 small truck tyres, 28 x 8 - 15. All 4 are in fantastic condition with over an inch of tread depth, I'm planning on using these on my 300, seems silly to spend £750 for wheels and tyres when these are free!

My only concern is the weight, I'm going to use a 15" car wheel, cut the centre out and make new centres with the correct offset to suit my ATV.
Does anybody have a chart with ATV wheel and tyre weights or do they know (because they've weighed them) how heavy a 28 or 30" tyre is?

Here's a pic, For those interested.
I may cut every other centre lug out in a zig zag pattern to open the tread gap up a little. I'll see how it goes first though.

I think your going to have some super heavy tires and wheels there when your done,
just due to the load factor of a car tire over an ATV, the tire it self will be 25+% heavier IMO than a ATV of like size, and the wheel too then will also be heavier, again due to weight it needs to support!

then add in how much LESS flex there will be in these tires over an ATV tire, as they again HAVE to be stiffer due to load ratings on them, even with ZERO air in them, I do NOT see them conforming to things like rocks and such, as an ATV tire would?/

will they work??
I gather there round and a tire, so YES< but , NOT the best set up I would bet!
or that's my 2 cents??

Good luck!

Yeah I'd considered the fact about them being load rated and generally just to firm for an ATV. My first plan was to buy Agri tyres and cut the carcass to the cords to allow more flex, I've seen that done and it works well. Then, these tyres turned up for free so I figured I'd give it a whirl and see how it goes. Worst case scenario, I have to invest in agri tyres and swap them onto my custom wheels.

yes for free why not try them, if you have the wheels to fit!

AG tires were the original BIG tires for ATV's, before the rage of ALL these BIG ATV tires we now have, if anyone recalls that! LOL

but they too, are a HEAVY tire and tend to be narrow and not as much flotation as other ATV like tires offer, and there Stiff as you already know! ride quality suffers, and handling as well!
PURE MUD Only, I guess they can still be OK, if you have the gearing to turn them well enough!

but this stuff is why they switch from them to what we have today mostly!
as things advances they found better tool to do the same job!
ATV MUD tires, off all shapes and sizes and weights and plys and??? LOL

It's the cost at the moment for me @mrbb, getting married, honeymoon etc etc it gets quite costly.
As for wheels to fit, I plan on using a 15" car rim, cut the centre out and make a new centre with the offset of my choice and the correct PCD. Will take some time making the wheels up but time I have, funds I don't just yet.
I've attached a picture of a wheel, I'll follow that design I think, seems the easiest route to me.
