Alrighty Brake technicians. Need y'all to take it down to the basics for me. My 2004 Honda Recon 250 has 0 braking power. As y'all may know I have planned to fix the rear brakes. I'm pretty confident about fixing them, however not the same for the front brakes.

First off, can someone please dumb down how the front brakes work? What's brake fluid for and how much do I need in that little box on handle bars?

Second off, I have like no pressure when pulling the lever. How can I go about fixing these brakes?

Sorry for such a widespread question. Google wasn't much help on this topic and I just got confused. I know some of you can help me out. Plus I have read and heard of people trying to fix their brakes and not accomplishing anything so lil worried.

BTW I was planning on not buying any shoes or anything of sorts on rear brakes and just cleaning bc I'm selling bike soon and just want them fixed enough to sell. Hopefully I can do same with front brakes. (I've watched some videos of tightening/adjusting them?)

Read and follow the service manual recommendations for your bike(s) at all times too!

You ain't going anywhere unless/until you take that advice seriously. We can lead folks of all walks of life to greater knowledge and understanding, but we can't ever make them think/read/learn/do for themselves... which is why we often fail to help very many folks... as much as we insist that we must! :)

Videos are not very helpful as teaching tools... many of them are made by complete idiots. So put a big smile on and read all of the technical stuff you can find. Service manuals will ALWAYS be your best friend while fixing stuff, no matter what it is you might be attempting to do.

First thing I looked into retro lol. I wouldn't be here unless manual failed to make me certain, videos or reading articles. Partzilla seems to be the main reliable video source.

Hi johnny:
I asume you have a hidraulic break sistem ,front and rear, if so ,is very simple to fix .
First if by any chance you drain the recerboirs of brake fluid, you have now air on the sistem, nothing to worry,we are giong to that afert you adjust the linners.
If you dont need linners, adjust the shoes to tuch the drum, then back off 2 click's on the adjuster, now if you have disk brakes, they dont need any adjustmen, next you need to bled the air of the rear circuit.
Ck brake fluid level on rear recerboir, next ck the rear brake for a bleding screw, pump the rear brake slouly to not creat more air by pumping fast, keep presure on rear brake and slouly open the bleder screw a litle bit,it will air and fluid coming out, when is only fluid coming out close de bleder.
Now ck for braking,it should lock the rear whels.
Now repit the steps at front and you down with it,good luck,if you like you can call me @ (714) ***_****,is easer for me on the phone.
If you like let me know how did go,take care.Albert
