First post here, seems like the best site around that I’ve come across.

so I picked up an old Honda 4x4 I believe is a 92 trx 350d from my best guess. Just want to make sure it’s correct so I can start ordering some parts because it needs an overhaul to make reliable again.
When I type the VIN number in to a decoder it doesn’t read and I’ve looked at the charts but hopefully people here can assure me I’m correct. I’ll try and post a pic of it also.
Vin number is JHSTE0720NM

I need a battery, all around brake kit ( master cylinder , cables and such) probably new gaskets, seat, clutch, starter ignition kit , boots and shocks For start.

thanks got the post and thepix
This is not a TRX350D but likely a TRX300 FW (4x4).
The VIN you have starts out JH3TE
Actually with the bumpy fenderguards. This indicates a 96? to 00

check out my service manual and parts links in my signature block below

use the Rocky Mountain parts link select atv and year and then TRX300 and you’ll see

I’ll take a pic when I can and post it up. So when I go to Rocky Mountain site. What’s the difference between fw and fwan ? I still don’t know what to chose haha. Sorry I’m very new and learning. First time trying to restore an older atv

Great question keep in mind the TRX300 was manufactured from 1988 to 2000. There are three generations where ignition systems are not interchangeable. So this is why we must correct identify frame and engine
Ok what i was looking for—when you go to Rocky Mountain, you start by looking at ATV, then by year, then by model. When you scroll through the models, you’ll see frame serial numbers listed. so this is what i was looking for and I can’t find yours yet!
JH3 is made in Japan Honda ATV
TE0720 should tell the model
N should tell the year 1992
M should tell the factory Hamamatsu
This makes sense because up until 1988 trx300 were made in Japan

so show some more pics—and serial number—top of the engine; right side case, just behind the cylinder.

Also what is carburetor model? Should be a Keihin VE90 something or 91.

These webs links very helpful
TE07 says Fourtrax 350 well that’s not true i know
TRX350 were still made in Japan until 1993 but this is not a TRX350

here’s a pic of my 92 TRX300 FW

Do you still know the person you bought it from? Did you get a bill of sale?
the TRX300 VIN i have were stamped into flat plate crossmembers between the front frame downtubes. This vin is stamped into a round crossmember typical of those found on the TRX350.

are the welds on the end of the tubes rusty or sloppily welded?

Thanks so much Goober for your help and fast replies. Your atv looks absolutely mint. My father in law did the trade so I’ll have to ask him about that.
I’ll check out the atv ASAP and get some more pictures and post them up.
thanks again

In the meantime let’s identify what you have.

bumpy fender guards could mean 95/6-00 TRX300 or that smooth fender guards were replaced.

shine flashlight on left side of carb—just left of fuel hose inlet—what number is there? Any? Early model would be VE90A, B or E; late model VE91 yay OEM carb. No number would be aftermarket boo hiss.

Very good
Yes VE91C (the other following characters not important) fitted to 95-00 TRX300

now for engine serial number

click my links below to access the 95-00 TRX300 service manual

check this web link for engine serial number —you know this is a TRX300 so justcompare engine serial to 95-00. 95-97 share ignition interchangeability and separate CDI and alarm box components with side mounted connectors. 98-00 have a single CDI/alarm box with top mounted connector

Doesn’t appear to be a 92 TRX300.
Engine serial should show if it’s 95-97 or 98-00.
Like I mentioned look up inside the front fender behind the headlights youll see either 1 or two electrical boxes on the frame

at least you know you can buy the OEM carb rebuild kit

" N " as the tenth digit makes it a 92 frame ------ the fender flares are 96 up , the plastic fenders no telling as you can drill holes and use the 2nd gen flares on a first gen bike , the tank had to be 1st gen as the 2nd gen tank won't fit on that frame , post the engine serial number and we can tell you what year the engine is ------ I got a 92 myself
