The guy I bought it from said it was an 85 TRX 250. But how do I figure out what model is it exactly? Like a 250X, or 250EX or 250R? Is there a place on the bike itself I can look at? Can I run the VIN somewhere and get it figured out? Im looking for a service manual and maybe an owners manual so i want to make sure I get the correct stuff

im sure some where on the frame is a sticker/print of the model. im not sure exactly where it is on then older machines. on my 02 rancher, its on the front of the frame. look under the seat. im sure you could type in the vin in find it also

Does it have cargo racks? If it does, it's a Fourtrax 250 utility. There should be a sticker somewhere on the front of the frame, but since it's an '85, it's probably gone. It would have to be a 2-stroke to be a 250R and they didn't make the 250X until 1987. Also, they didn't make a 250EX in '85.

It must be the Fourtrax 250 utility. They were made from 1985-1987. If it has cargo racks, that's what it is.
