So i have a 2001 four trax 350 was hard to put into gear, then nuetral indicator light whould not come on in nuetral not allowing it to start, i changed gears rocking the machine and the light came on in 5 th gear it started then when i put it in nuetral the light will not come on not allowing it to start i rock the machine and change gears but nothing ??

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like the back of your shift drum broke off. It's what turns your gear position switch and tells the machine what gear it is in.

You can either tear the whole motor down and replace the shift drum, or you can rig it up to start in any gear.

I agree with Jeep, there was a recall for this way back when these were new, I remember mine going into the shop to have it fixed when it was still under warranty.

yep, my money says the back end of the shift drum snapped off, which turns the gear position switch.

if it is a safety issue, there is no limitations. in other words, if it can cause a injury from a defective part ?, they will fix it if its out of warranty, if it's not related to a way it can cause injury ?, they wont touch it with a 10 foot pole.
