Well, bye bye Argo, hello Sportsman!

This has been a long time coming haha.

My father is definitely NOT one to follow any sort of trend, and takes pride in being different than everyone else, even if it's in a negative way lol.

About 10 years ago he bought a 6 wheeled Argo with tracks, and had some fun with it.

He ended up selling it as it was a little too much machine for where we were, and he never had much time to use it.

Fast Forward to 2015 when he retired, and he decided "hey, I think I'll buy another Argo!".

So he ended up with a 2015 Frontier 8x8 as a retirement gift.

Again, it was a great machine, but it was way too much for just putting around on the lake, or through some groomed trails in the summer.

It got to the point where he would spend more time doing maintenance (not because it needed it mind you), and bolting accessories onto it that actually RIDING the damn thing!

Near the end, the only time he would bring it up in conversation was to say to me "I dunno, do you think I should sell the Argo?".

The time came, and the Argo got sold 2 days after posting the 1st Kijiji add.

He bought it as a showroom special with a winch, plow, windshield, rubber tracks, camo body, plus some other extras, for a cool $22,500 tax in.

A little pricey when compared to 4x4 ATV's I'd say haha.

But after owning it for 2 years, and getting some decent use out of it, he ended up selling it for $20,000 cash, so he didn't loose out on much.

Argo's don't seem to keep their value quite the same way the ATV's do, so I think it was smart that he sold it while it still had value.

Since he sold the Argo, we've been looking for an ATV for him.

Initially he wanted to go used for around $6000-$7000, but he is too paranoid and ended up buying new from the same place he bought his last Argo.

2017 Sportsman HO, with winch and Polaris quick connect plow system, $11,000 tax in.

Now THAT is a hell of a deal!

The way the market and prices are, he could use this thing for 2 years, and sell it for $11,000!

I know this is a Honda forum, and I'm sure lot's of you guys are anti-Polaris haha, but it's a VERY nice machine.

Being a 2017, they've covered all the problematic "fire" areas with extra heat shields, plus it's brand new, so if this thing does go up in flames, it should be covered by warranty haha.

Anyway, here are some pics, still need to get more out in the sunlight, and some from underneath.

Nice workshop! Your ATV’s look somewhat lost in there haha!
Hope your dad enjoys his new toy, being brand new and your dad being older (no offence) and wiser it should last him a long time.
I think a good percentage of CanAms and Polaris are bought purely because they’re powerful, therefore they get abused and then some! Not a bad looking machine though I have to say.

Oh, no offense taken, he's an old man, haha, but still a kid at heart!

Yeah he definitely got sucked into the "MOOARR POOWARR!" aspect of the Polaris lol.

But, even with all that power, he will go 30mph for half a day, then come home and service the whole machine!

Yeah our Garage is somewhat in shambles at the moment.

I have 2 sets of summer tires, 3 ATV's (one in pieces), 2 sets of ATV rims and tires, the old seats out of my car, all the tools, plus some miscellaneous bull crap laying around....

I made a deal with myself that as soon as I get the 250 up and running, the next thing to do is organize the garage.

I always think I'll have more energy when I get home from work, but after a 12 hour day, I just don't have the motivation haha.

It's the worst in the winter when it gets dark so early.

Leave in the morning and it's dark.

Get home in the evening and it's dark.

The weekends are when things REALLY get done.

My woman hates it, but she's been laying off me lately because now I'm working on HER quad... go figure :D

I like the ARGO 8 wheeler with tracks , had the opportunity to run around in the marsh on them aftermaking repairs to the chains and bearings ----anyways , just yesterday I was over at Dick's cycles and he has a very unusual machine in there , it looks just like an ARGO , kind of any ways , but it has a cloned Can-Am 800 ( I believe ) engine in it , what really separates this one is there is a lever on the dash , when you engage the lever it switches the power from the wheels to a jet drive in a tunnel under the fiberglass body , very unique machine to me , I have never seen another one like it , should have snapped a pic , which I may in the future

I don't know what's up with my wife , she has not ridden for the last three weekends ----- I have always wanted a 8 wheeler with tracks , $22,500 is a lot of money for an ARGO and I would still have to buy the tracks , you can buy 2 brand new Can-Am's 1000's with some upgrades for that

Got an old 8x8 Argo in bits over here that needs bearings, we have have nowhere to use them though really. Pretty sure it’s a Tekumsee (not sure on the spelling) engine in this one. It’s also an off white/sand colour which I’ve never seen another of.
Slightly off subject, what do you guys think shipping costs would be on something like an ATV or Argo?

My neighbor has a Polaris Sportsman and seems to be happy with the purchase. One thing I do know about Polaris, they are fast,
Kilometer per hour was ~116 on the video so somewhere around 72 mph, that's moving on a ATV....

New toys are always fun no matter the maker. Hope your dad is happy and enjoys it!
Thanks Retro, I know he will. He's already mounted a horn, and modified the 1 1/4 to 2" hitch adapter to sit closer to the machine. Oh and he painted it red haha :p

Remember that's in CANADIAN currency... You could probably get the same setup down there for around 17k-18k, but it's still expensive lol. $22,500 was also WITH the tracks, which are like a $4000 friggin add-on!

Haha, I can't even count how many times my dad has shown me, or talked about that same video! We are so much alike. As soon as we get something new, we have to research the crap out of it, and watch EVERY review possible!
