When I put my extension on and removed the rear axle, this washer came out. I didn’t see where it dropped from by when I look at the schematics it shows it should go into the axle shaft before the hub. But without it the hub slips on fully. With it, it will not go in near enough for the hub and cotter. Am I reading this schematic wrong or does it belong side the shaft up against the diff?

That collar slides over the left end of the rear axle with the concave side of it facing toward the diff, flat side of the collar faces out toward the hub.

What are you working on?

Sorry. 2018 Rancher. I tried like the drawing and you said but the hub will not go in all the way. Should the washer be driven in pretty hard? Here are some other pictures. See how it stays out close to the edge? If I put the hub on it it will not go on all the way.

You've got to take the left side axle tube back off, slide the collar over the axle shaft (it only fits one way, concave side it), then put the axle tube back on. Fill the hub seal lips with grease before you put the hub back on.

you got two choices , if you have a slide hammer , pop the bearing out the tube with the tube still attached to the diff , put the collar in and then reinstall the bearing , if the bearing is in there very tight then you might damage bearing trying to get it out ------the other way is to remove the tube from the diff , put the collar on the axle ( you don't have to remove the axle to do that ) , then put the tube back on and this way you never have to remove the bearing from the tube

as fish said ^^, remove the left rear tube ( 4 nuts/bolts ) slide collar on with tapered side facing differential -flat side facing out to hub, install tube, then hub, then wheel, problem solved.

for future reference ?, NOT ALL PARTS WILL SHOW WHERE THEY ARE ON CERTAIN MICRO FICH !. in other words, the tubing might show up on rear swing arm ?, where is, the axle will show up with the rear final gear ? or from someone who calls it rear differentials :).
