I know there have been lots of 424 questions posted, but I haven't seen this one yet.

I was recently given a 424 from a friend who owns an ATV shop. I want to put it on my 2004 350 Rancher, but I'm not sure if it came off a Rancher or a Foreman. There is no part number on the housing for reference.

Is there any real difference between the two units? If it did come off a Foreman, will it still fit my Rancher?

I plan to try and install it to see of it will fit, I just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone else has any firsthand knowledge of it.

the ranchers and foremans have different front drive shaft lengths, soooooo..I highly doubt it will just drop right in without some mod's to the drive shaft length. and welcome to the forums.

You should be able to compare the front driveshaft lengths to determine if your 424 might fit on your Rancher. If it won't, you could swap in a front diff, driveshaft & selectable switch from a '04-'07 Rancher 400AT to accomplish the same thing, electrically, but its an OEM Honda bolt-in.

I think they only make 4 models , 2000-2006 350 rancher is a DS3500 , 1998-2001 450 Foreman is a DS4500 , 93-2000 300 Fourtrax and then the 500 Rubicon ,

I know the 450 and 350 don't interchange ---------- I just stick a 424 in a 450 this evening , I can't get a accurate measure now , it would be more a guess-ta-mite

I know someone on the board who might still have a 424 for a rancher 350 off the bike , he would most like take a measurement and I would bet he would sell you the one he has brand new , which is for the 350

If if is for a 450 or a 300 and doesn't help you with your 350 , I might be interested in buying it from you

you can call the distributor , they were kind of helpful when I called them , they are not the builders just the US distributor ---- but they might have some measurements where you can figure out what it is

post a pic like Wilson said , I know what a 300 and a 450 looks like

Turns out I was overthinking and worried about nothing. It was given to me by a friend who owns an ATV repair shop. I asked him about it and he said that it did come off a 350 Rancher. I have to get a rebuild kit and replace the cable before I install it. Give me a couple minutes and I'll post a pic.

I just done a 424 rebuild , I can tell you the kit will set you back $100-120 , they don't sell the cable by it's self , the new bolts in the kit gave me troubles , they were longer by 3/8 of an inch , I never noticed the difference and couldn't get it to pull together as the bolts were bottoming out , also they shorted me two c-clips , so count the clips before you tear into the old ones and bend them all up

there are some non Honda 424s,

There are no Honda 424's , Honda didn't make anything like that , the were made by Warn for a while and then Wide Open buy the design and started reproducing them

I think he means there were 424’s made to fit machines other than Honda’s. I know they made some for the Yamahas at one time.

Mac , that same kit fits all models of the 424 ----- I have wonder if they ever built 424's for Yamaha's --- I once tried to find a 424 for my buddies Yammy 400 Big Bear , I never did find reference of the 424's for anything except for Honda -----I just recently had a chance to buy a WARN 424 that was made for the 1st gen 300 , I never knew they actually made one for the 1st gen , thought all were welded up , the guy didn't want to ship and was 3 hours away and wanted $250 for it ,

Yeah I seen a 1st gen 424 on Facebook for sale I assume it was the one you are talking about. Hard to find now. Not sure why they don’t make them again I’d say they’d sell just as many as they do for the 2nd Gen.

Warn made them for the Yamaha’s but High Lifter also had their own they called an “unlocker” or something like that.

I have a NOS Warn 424 for the 2nd Gen 300, not a wide open kit but the actual Warn unit. I’ve heard some guys say the newer wide open kits are lesser quality so I’m saving this one for a future project

Found a few good deals on facebook , Dick's hooked me up with some sites , but I didn't last long on Facebook , they barred me cause first I won't give them my correct birthday , seems someone complained that can't be me as the date was way off , so they wanted a picture of me , not to put on open line but for verification that it was me , how did they even know what I look like to start , sent them a picture of my dog , they said I can't participate till I send a picture and my correct birthday , your birthday is a form of personal identification so , I ain't doing it --- I tried to delete my account and it won't let me cause it won't let me log in , I got a pile of messages listed and can't off them ---facebook sucks

Wow. I only paid $150 for my Warn-built 424! I bought it off of Ebay- buyer had purchased it, but never installed it. It was opened but brand new. This would have been back in 03 or 04.

2018 Normal price on e-bay is $369 for a 424 any model they make same price , the rebuild kits are $120 , one kit fits all , one for a 1st gen 300 where it needs to be modified , buy a new one and having the work done can set you back as much $450 - $500
