where the cable goes into the back side of the aluminum control knob tube , you unscrew the end piece of the aluminum tube , then slide it out just enough to get the ball on the end of the cable out the groove that it fits into , if you go too far then the detent ball will fall out the shaft and have to be set back in place ----only problem is , if it has been a long time since it was apart and you never put some never-sieze or grease on the threads , then it might never unscrew , I have it happen a couple of times , if this is the case , then just cut the cable , order a rebuild kit for $120 and it comes with everything , bearings , seals , cable , knob , mounting bracket , you can't buy the cable by itself ----google either Wide Open or Warn 4x2 kick out instruction manual and it will give you some picsI have a 2003 350 rancher with a WARN 424. The cable was inserted through a hole in the front fender. I need to take the fender off and want to disconnect one end of the cable. Any suggestions (warnings) would be helpful.
