Well I went to get the 450 titled today and was informed that I have to get a VIN# inspection done by the police dept. before I can get that done since it only came with a bill of sale... previous owner was the original owner and said he never got a title... because they weren't required before '06 (here in Indiana at least)...

And this ATV was extremely rusty on the front part of the frame where I believe the VIN# was stamped. I have used a wire wheel to remove the rust.. and the VIN# is NOT visible on that cross bar across the front of the frame...

Is the VIN# stamped anywhere else on the frame or engine???

I’ve been trying to find some forensic file wizardry that will read the number in the molecular metal for ya. Crime people do that for guns.
Otherwise I would look for another frame but that’s going to only come with a BOS too. So this could be a Parts machine if you can get a titled quad that was sunk or something.

I have a few 99-2002 450 frames laying around , both ES and FM if there is a difference I don't know , I would sell you one for $100 but you have to come and get it , no shipping and take everything off the frame , if I were to take everything off , I would want $200 , think that is cheap as I see them go for up to $500

Fish... thanks for the offer... and I may take you up on that if it comes to that... we have friends in Denham Springs and could make a trip of it...

Here's what the Indiana BMV website states...

"Title Requirements for ORVs and SnowmobilesOff-Road Vehicles (ORV)

ORVs purchased after 12/31/2009 must be titled with the BMV. You must apply for a certificate of title within 45 days after the date of purchase, or an administrative penalty will be charged.

A certificate of title is required to be presented as proof of ownership. If a certificate of title cannot be provided, you must submit and Affidavit of Ownership (if you qualify) or obtain a Court Order prior to applying for a certificate of title.

An ORV purchased before 1/1/2010 is not required to be titled but may be voluntarily titled upon request of the owner.

If the ORV is not required to be titled, and you do not have a certificate of title as proof of ownership, you may complete and affirm ownership on an*Off-Road Vehicle / Snowmobile Ownership Affidavit – State Form 52827."

So I may be in luck w/o having to jump through too many hoops...
