I run Mobil 10w-40 and GN4 Honda in my quads... The newer ones get the GN4 Honda Oil... The older ones get the Mobil...
Try amsoil. I used to run mobil 1 4t before and the difference was night and day. And where i live the difference is 2 bucks a quart. You will feel so safe at rev limiter that you will be extremely surprised im sure. I couldnt believe how quiet it made everything. When before i started using it i would let off just before the limiter because of the scary noises the enigne made. My .02

I had an 06 "Rancher" 400AT that i got with 2000kms on it. I put another 7000+kms. Only used Castrol 20W50 regular motorcycle oil, never had an issue. "Just sayin"...
I run Castrol 10w-40 in all my toys ( atvs and motorcycles ), good stuff.
I haven't never been able to find it in atv oil or I would've tried it years ago lol.
I buy mine at advanced auto parts.

I'll have to try that.... I don't hit the limiter too often on flat track racing, or with any of my other bikes... but I may give that a try next oil change

I use to use Amsoil in the ATV and just gave up on it the last 2 years due to price and that I now just change the oil and filter more regularly now. But I use it in my Duramax faithfully and there is no comparison at all. Great lubricant.

I'm still running 5W-40 Rotella T6 in my 14 Rancher and lately I've been getting a lot of ticking sounds from the engine. I installed this oil back in February and have only put 50 miles on it since then. I also checked the valve specs when I changed the oil and they were still good. Oil still looks as clean as it did when I installed it. This thing specs a 10W-30 as the preferred viscosity so I don't know if the heavier weight in this colder weather is causing the increased noise.

At cold startup temps, the 5w40 will actually be THINNER than the 10w30. The T6 is not likely your problem. But you could try a different 0wXX or 5wXX synthetic to eliminate the oil as a cause, it won't hurt anything.

Yep, I agree and would check valves again.

I've been running Castrol Power RS Racing 4T synthetic in my 2011 Honda Rancer, shifts beautiful. Just did an oil change with Valvoline ATV 4 stroke because that's what local NAPA guy recommended and thought I'd support local. Just took out for test after oil change. It shifts terrible now. I would never believed their could be so much difference. It shifts so jerky it slips tires on gravel with shift. Anyone else experiece this. Going back to Castrol. What a waste

My Honda is a 2011 TRX420 FPA. The NAPA guy steered me away from some AMSOIL and said wasn't recommended for Honda's. But like I say, if I didn't experience this rough shifting on Valvoline, I would have probably never believed someone else!

I probably will check the valves again but I only have about 250 miles on this ATV in the 3 1/2 years I've had it. I find it hard to believe the valves are already off when I've checked them twice and they have been good both times.
