I've been reading with interest some of the purchases that you statesiders manage to pick up. Sure you might have to drive several hours to pick it up but on the whole, you seem to get value for money. I compare that to the some of sales that are happening in the UK and i think that us Brits have gone mad!

Have a look at the money that is being paid for spares / repairs / projects quads over here is -

£748 (986USD) for a TRX300 with no front wheels and a rotting frame!
Honda big red 4x4 4wd quad bike 300cc 1995 classic export welcome | eBay

£921 (1215USSD) for a non-runner and 'a spare' (with the valuable parts stripped off)
HONDA TRX300 4X4 BIG RED FOURTRAX QUAD BIKE ATV FOR SPARES X 2 | eBay

I know right?! Some of these guys get such amazing deals on their quads. Best one I've seen yet is @retro with his 20$ TRX350!! Granted a lot of work has been put into it to get it where it is now, it is well worth paying 20$ !! Haha :D

I might be getting a lucky break myself for a TRX350... 200$, missing magneto, coil ... I'll leave it at that for now since nothing is certain on the seller's side!

There’s more people over here buying up the old ATV’s taking them to bits and selling the spares. Nobody seems to be interested in rebuilds. Some guy has had a 350d rear end on eBay now for 4 months and asking £275 for it, guys a joker!
Because 90% of them think the older ATV’s are worth a fortune they ask stupid money for them, I’ve bought several parts now from the US and got them shipped for less than half the price folks ask over here.

Yeah @SamUK it looks like they are being bought as breakers, but I still can't see anybody making any real money out of these at these prices. The two that were being sold together were being sold by a Honda dealer; David Jones at Newtown, Mid Wales. They aren't your average 'just fit new parts' type of dealer, they really know their stuff and I wouldn't have thought that they would be selling it if some of the parts were half decent.

I've bid on a few quads at farm auctions, but there is a guy that is always the top bidder or the under bidder on a lot spares / repairs type quads. I saw him pay £660 for a TRX300FW with a seized engine once, only to see him selling the same quad a few weeks later for the same price, but throwing in a spare engine as well!

Yeah the prices are ridiculous, trouble is because of the ‘planks’ that buy them as breakers each year that goes by there will be fewer and fewer so the prices will continue to rise.
I search eBay and gumtree every single evening for complete ATV’s that want restoring or repairs, have done for the last 6 months. I’ve not seen anything at a sensible price.

Spotted a 350d for £1000, all that was good on it was the rear end and engine maybe a few small odds and sods, the rest was literally scrap.

You did good shady getting that for free, good job!
