I have a 95 300ex that a few of you have helped me work out some quarks and i appreciate it. After riding around on it for a little while i think i need some more speed because many of the trails by me are mostly old railrods and are pretty flat or washboard but also do some hill climbs and other stuff. I was thinking about putting a big bore kit in it or high compression piston. Many of the kist claim bolt on part but are there any other mods i will have to make to the crank case or to the head/ stroke. I dont know a lot about these things but am pretty good at wrecnchin. Is this something i should do. My other options were to change everything else like carb (what size would be good), exhaust, cdi box (will these hurt my engine). It has a uni filter would i be better off with a K&N. I was thinking of putting a 14 tooth sproket up front because it seems its geared really low. would i still have to some torque left or... Thanks guys

With my personal experience with building engines (not atv engines)...I know this might sound mean but it’s true and will save you allot of money. If you don’t know how to build a motor DONT ATTEMPT you will fail. Unless you have someone who can walk you through everything step by step and giving you hands on help. Other than that find someone who knows how to build engines. Too many variables on what can go wrong when you tare down an rebuild a motor doesn’t matter how big or small. But you don’t have to listen to me that’s just my 2c.

Agreed^^^ However... you can change the gearing tire size (Rear) ect and pick-up alittle more speed changing the CDI wil alter the rpm rev limit raising it aproximately 1000 extra rpms thus giving a bit more power. Changing the carb to say....a 400ex carb and giving it a good jetting will help a good head pipe and muffler, Uni is a good filter K&N too.

Internally you can upgrade to a stage 1, 2, or 3 cam with the 1 your stock valvetrain is fine anything higer 2 or 3 i reccomend upgrading the keepers and springs. change out the stock piston for a bit more compression or a 330 big bore kit would work too.
With the Mods my 250X has I have smoked a 300ex with bolt-on mods incl.jet kit by about 3 or 4 bike lengths then after about 1/4 mile the 300 starts to gain. thats the stroke difference coming into play. So I know you can get great speed from your 300 with no problems. Good luck and Keep us in the loop on the progress.

I would personally start with a full exhaust, leave the Uni, I believe they are better than K & N.(as far as keeping your internals clean) Jet it accordingly and get a CDI box. Do you have 22" rear tires? Drop to a 20", and adjust your gearing 1 tooth upfront.

See where that gets you. You won't lose an reliability that way.

That was on an episode of Cribs wasn't it? I think I saw that. Do you have the guys up there with the big Impalas with the 24 on them up there? They are like fleas around here they look so freakn funny...LMAO

Yes, They call it donking. Thats funny! My friend works at Orielly auto parts and a 69Camaro on a truck frame and it had 24s. Car was BEAUTIFUL resto of a 69 Camaro, stripes SSemblems cowl hood. Why you wanna screw up a Classic. It Pissed me off because I use to own a 68 Camaro and I sold it. Thank God that He is not the person I sold it too. Shoot those guys. They are stupid. Just venting!

I completely agree and if they are anything like the ones here their house is falling down around them but the got the satellite dish and the hoopties on twenty fos' the rims are worth more than the cars. the buy the old patrol cars at the auctions here for 2 or 300 bucks and put actual lift kits on them, my buddy who painted my car has painted 7 or 8 of them and they pay cash! 3k a pop! Sickening and I struggle everyday to feed my family and keep a dry roof over us. Sorry i was venting it just chaps my A**!!

I like how the dumb black poor guys around Tallahassee buy a accord or small 4 door car and put 20's or 22's on it. Then wonder why they keep breaking tie rods and blowing though aliments. No to mention the car looks total s**t. There is a guy hear that thinks he is cool cus he can do pushups under his impala whopdy Fin doo!...we all stand around him @ the car meet just to make fun of him.

If he knew how. 99.9% of them don't know how to anything else but push the gas and brake pedal and turn the knob on the cd player. I hate it when FAMU has home coming it's nothing but stupid looking cars that are jacked sky high. The thing I love to do is drive around FAMU campus beating down...it's sad when you have this 35441351 dollar car but a white boy in a little lowered honda can out beat you with less than 1500watts. An most of them have at least 2 12' sub's in their car/suv's. My little @ss can out beat them with 2 12's with 1200watts. I love to see the look on their faces...its priceless FYI I’m current set up I’m peaking 131 decibels w/o burping my subs. If I burp them Im sure Im around 135-140db
