Wanted to show you guys the result of my newest toy, I mean tool. I bought one of the 10L ultrasonic cleaner off eBay for around $100. I had heard good things about them for cleaning carbs. Well the proof is here, I used 1.5 cups simple green and filled the rest with hot water. I ran 2 cycles for 20 mins each. Carb came out mostly spotless. All deposits on the inside were gone! Definitely worth the money spent.

They work great don’t they, I’m yet to use one on a carb though.

Just want to mention a safety tip...

My dad and I used to use wide format solvent printers some years back, the solvent (some form of thinner but ridiculously strong) used to get so hot you couldn’t touch it when it was in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Just keep your eye on the temperatures when using solvents.

The small variants are junk, made for jewellery and lightly spiked items I think.

What is the stuff on the plunger , looks like melted plastic or heavy oil crude

They are great for stripping protective coatings off of metal, I use to use one for rebuilding scuba regulators and o2 cleaning for nitrox, general rule was they cleaned well 2nd cycle you were spinning the wheel if you done more cleaning or damage.

WSG , a couple of weeks back a guy at the flea market had two organizer boxes full of orings , diaphragms and parts for different regulators for dive gear , all the trays were marked with the brands , he most likely still has them , do you still do regulators ?

Looks like melted a bit from backfire or something? I junked that plunger and used a great condition one I had around. This is on my 317 bike and it is running great now!

If you do a lot of ATV work, you can't beat these ultrasonic cleaners. We just purchased a new 10L one as well, as our older 2-gallon one just burnt up. This makes our 4th one, but we can't live without one!
You probably should NOT use any kind of flammable solvent with these, as we have seen all kinds of things go wrong with them. If the solvent gets too low, you can get hot spots on the tank from the heater, not to mention the electrical aspect of these. Usually the circuit boards burn up, and then they are toast.

We use a biodegradable cleaner called "Awesome", available locally from Family Dollar for $3.00 for approx. 2 quart jug. We mix it 50/50 with water, and carbs come out looking brand new!! I would caution putting the vacuum slide and diaphragm in with heat. I don't think the soapy cleaner hurts them any, but we just spray them with Awesome, in the sink, scrub 'em clean, and give it a good rinse. Haven't had any issues with rubber o-rings, plastics, or anything else in the utrasonic cleaner. We usually let carbs sit overnight with the heat on after cleaning (temp turned down some), and by morning, they are ready to be rinsed, dried, and put back together. I would guess that we have done well over 100 of them.
