Hello all,

I have an `01 TRX350FE that was running poorly. I pulled the carb, cleaned and put in a rebuild kit. I had it running great. Life got in the way and it ended up sitting again. I've been tinkering with it again and have discovered that it only runs if I blow ever so gently into the vent tube that splits off into a "Y" to different sides of the carb. Runs great if I blow into and dies in a few seconds when I stop. Anybody know why this would be? Is something likely out of adjustment or do I need to pull the carb and clean again? Thanks in advance.

Well I'm no mechanic but I'd say if it was running good before you put it away, chances are crud and dirt made its way into the carb clogging some jets up. Adjustment may help? But if you haven't touched it since you put it away, sounds more like a clogged jet especially since its running lean, allowing it to run when you blow into the vent tube?

Try shadetrees trick of getting a thin bit of wire, off a wire brush or something and gently pushing it through the jets until you can see right through them. Clean the bowl and float while your in there.

Let us know how you go!

If the bike was stored a couple months or more with ethanol-laced gas in it, you'll need to yank the carb and clean it thoroughly again. Flush the yellow goo out of the tank and lines as well and change the fuel filter. You did put an OEM carb kit in it didn't you..?

on the side of your carb is a valve , it is called something like a air cut valve , there is a jet under that valve , I would bet that is where the problem is since when you blow on the tube that goes to it , it runs ----- or if you have already cleaned the carb before and took that jet out , you may have put it back in backwards ---- I had problems with that same issue on my 450 which is basically the same carb

Thank you guys for the input. Figured I'd have to yank and clean it again, so ya'll all just confirmed it. I had Sta-Bil in there and yes, it was an oem kit, but it has been sitting for over a year. Thanks again for the advice. Greatly appreciated!
