Does anyone know the pinion preload setting on the rear diff? I guess I also need the backlash specs. The manual I bought for the ATV said that setting up the rear diff was a very complicated procedure and special tools are needed. Obviously, the manual is of no use in this case.

I have the tools I need and have set up many diffs for jeeps and cars...just need help with the specs.

Can anyone help?

thanks!

That would probably be your best bet. Find an actual service manual. Welcome to the site...

anyone have the specs? Maybe I need to look for a Honda service book on Ebay or something.
I'm guessing you already know? But do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a Honda Service Manual. Although the books produced by companies like Clymer are Ok, they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to specifications like you are looking for right now.

You'll find the Honda Manuals cost more. But they are worth their weight in gold.

Good Luck......Oh, and have fun!

If you have between 6 and 12 thou lash youll be fine. there are washers to get the crown gear the proper distance from the pinion gear, but the pinion seems to only have one way with no way to set it deeper. I just shimmed my crown gear to get the right lash and it seems fine.
