I am restoring a 1995 TRX300FW and this is my first ATV. I bought misc. parts that were missing or needed replaced, one being the exhaust gasket. The piece i removed (which I assumed was the exhaust gasket) was copper and the outer diameter was a perfect fit with the cylinder exhaust outlet. The piece I received from Honda is much smaller. It is silver, not copper and has some felt material in the middle of it. As of right now, the outer diameter of the new piece is the same as the inner diameter of the old copper one. I thought maybe the new one would expand once the exhaust crushed it, but there is no way to center it inside the cylinder. I did flatten out the old copper piece the best I could in case I have to reuse it, but I am not sure it's in good enough shape now. Did I receive the corrcet part or is the copper piece something different from the exhaust gasket? What should I do next?

the part you got was the center ex gasket, on some models they used these where the head ex and the muffler joined together..the gasket you need for the cylinder is a larger round copper gasket..it fit's inside the head ex pipe inside the head right where your ex bolts up.

Thanks Shadetree. I was afraid this was the case. Does anybody know the Honda part number for the copper gasket? I can't seem to find it in the available microfiche.
The part number you need for the exhaust pipe gasket is Honda part #18291-MN4-920. I don't know what gasket they gave you, but the Fourtrax 300 has a one piece exhaust and doesn't have that center gasket where the head pipe and muffler connect, it's all one piece. Maybe they gave you a gasket for the wrong ATV.
