Recently aquired 1994 TRX300FW that needs work. Just pulled cover off air filter box and notice there is a very clean sponge like cylindrical shaped filter but no air filter body inside it as shown in diagrams for air cleaner box. This part is kind of expensive and not here. Is this air filter body that fits inside this foam like filter necessary? I am thinking it is as it is $65??

That part is a screen. The foam filter fits over it and a bracket bolts to the rear of it to support the back end of it. I don't know how necessary it is, but I think I would want it on mine. You might be able to by just by an aftermarket air filter for it and you shouldn't need that piece.
