Hi! Just bought a 97 TRX300 here in Michigan. New to it all, looking for info and pointers!
I would say this is true if you want the absolute best part and money is not a factor. There are some chinese parts that are very serviceable for an inexpensive build. I have used chinese batteries, master cylinder, bolts, winch, CV axle, and ignition coil with pretty good success. CDIs have been another story. I know there are some decent chinese units out there, but I am 50/50 on success ratio. They are GREAT rides; reliable nimble, cheap to run.
Download and/or buy the service manual—I have both—and do all the service items. If you don’t want to do them, find a good shop.
Bought this non-runner last September; just rebuilt carb a few weeks ago and completed tuning it this morning. I hit the button and she fires immediately!!
Got my trail pass and ready to go!!
Only buy OEM parts!!
