Hi Guys,

I'm waiting to take possession of my new/old TRX300.
I had the previous owner send me a photo of the VIN number ...
Can anyone make out what year it would be? lol ..
Did the TRX300 model change much as far as parts go?
Brakes same across the range? What about the toolbox lid at rear?

Where would I find the code for VIN numbers

Thanks,

Keith

try some lite sand paper on the vin number , it might clean up , judging from the mud flares I'd say 95 down to 90 , from the tank decals and the exhaust pipe , I'd say 90 up to 95 , but people change parts all the time so who knows ----- I see you also got a 2002 450 , I have the same bikes as you

Hi Fishfiles .. thanks for the info ..

I live about 24hrs drive from where my acreage is, so cant work on them until xmas time ..
Yes i'll lightly sand the numbers to see if I can work them out..

Do you know what years the 300 was produced? I have 1988 to ... 2000 + ???

I've only just bought these two bikes, so have a bit of work to do to bring them back to life ...

Here's the 450 2002:

Wow Mac ... it's getting older :) ...

The 300 has no front brakes, so that will probably be first up ...
Did the brakes change over the 88-2000, or will all 300 brake kits fit ?

Thanks Goober ...
Hopefully when I cleanup the numbers I will get the correct VIN number.
Was thinking maybe a solvent rather than sandpaper to try and preserve a much as I can ..

Use a wire wheel on a dremel or grinder to see the vin, it will come out cleaner than using sandpaper and you should be able to read it easier.

I would try a less aggressive measure first but certainly a copper or steel brush would work. Vinegar will dissolve the rust real nice overnight but has to stay saturated try soaking a rag in vinegar or using a small brush to wet the numbers. Then hit it with an old toothbrush or stiff plastic bristle brush. Copper or stainless steel or steel wool will clean it

Prime and paint right away or it will rust up on you again only worse

88-92 judging by the racks, strut front end, and header

I think we can rule out 88 as they didn't have fender flares till 89

Maybe, but its not a US machine he's in Austraillia so can't say for sure. I would agree that it's likely not an 88, but not going to say it isn't either since it's outside of NA.

The 2wds didn't have front flares either, I can't go back on Tapatalk now and look at the pic again, but didn't this one have front flares?
