im not sure what oil i should buy 4 my bike... it only has about 10 hrs on it but id rather do it sooner than later! just wondering what u guys might recomend and personally use (or DONT use) thanks

I would stick with the Honda oil. There is a few guys on hear that ride the 450R they will be able to give you the best advice.

This is basically like asking what is your favorite drink. Everyone is going to give you their opinion on oil. Now here comes my opinion:tongue:, I honestly just prefer any type recognizable brand of oil. Valvoline makes a pretty descent ATV oil (10w40 is my choice).

I use GN4 by Honda. Just do not use auto oil! It wears out the clutches. But on the other hand the 450r has separate compartments for the tranny and motor.

I did some reading about using auto engine oil and its not a good thing to use like Tom said it wears clutches. Thats why I quit using it.

I have a 450R also, I run GN4 from Honda on both sides. It is what Honda uses and recommends. They also make a really nice synthetic oil. Maxima makes an outstounding oil for ATV's but you also pay for it. Amsoil makes great product, I have seen someone turn 4 laps on a MX track to realize their oil drain plug was still in the trailer. He ran 4 laps with nothing but the residue from Amsoil and suffered no damage to the motor.

Wow! I have a buddy that did that and his quad went BOOM!!
He just had the motor rebuilt a month. I will tell him about that Amsoil oil.

i talked to the guys @ the local shop and they lined me out with the GN4 motor oil and i also picked up the HP tranny oil (SAE80w/85w)... sound about right?

here in Mexico I use Motul 4 stroke semisythetic 10-50, I used this one on my trx 250x and works great, easy and smooth shifting, I will make oil change, spark and oil filter this weekend to my 400ex, I will let you know how it works.

Yep, GN4 will work in the tranny too. Double check your specific model, but mine can take GN4 in the motor and tranny.

Actually you have the same model I do, GN4 will work in both sides. Change your oil filter every other oil change.
