Hi all, I'm currently trying to figure out how to change the stator in my atv. I'm quite sure I have located it behind the pull start cover. However my question is do I have to pull the engine out to get to it? A step by step tutorial would be fantastic! Pictures would be great as well!

TIA
tom.

You didn't mention the year that you are working on, but Stator replacement may be in section 10 of the factory service manual for your machine. You can get a copy of that FSM HERE. Yes, there are photos too... :)

How do you know that you need to replace the stator on your 400? Have you tested it with a multimeter?

Sorry mate 2004. Yeah I am getting 2 ohms resistance in the 3 yellow wires from the plug that plugs in to the rectifier. So presume that comes from the stator which I believe mean Le the coils in the stator have to high resistance to pass through the coils . I am getting no charge on my battery when bike is started

Look it up in the FSM I linked for you... I'm not confident that you are measuring in the right place but I haven't looked up the specs yet either. Got very little free time today... The troubleshooting chart at the beginning of the charging section should be a big help. Good luck...

Well, I decided to take some time to look up your stator specs:

Make sure you are unplugging the stator from the plug closest to the motor, so that it is isolated from any other circuitry when checking the coils with your ohms meter. Hope this helps, let us know how it goes.
