Newbie here,
Have a 93 TRX 300, that started with a starter problem, new solinoid, no luck, rebuild the starter, starts like a champ, drove around the yard, up shift down shift reverse all that, now nothing, I can hear the gear shifter go up in to first gear but nothing moves.... Im guessing something didnt get put together right when we put the plate and the starter back on. Any help would be great.... Was trying to save some coin with rebuilding the starter ourselves, guess thats out the window now. Thanks In Advance guys..
I did some searching in the repair section and the trx section and didnt come up with anything so figured i would post here and see what i get thanks again

does it start now? If so the starter situation appears to be fixed but you have a secondary issue. ist to mind is clutch adjustment. The are easy to set. If you can find specs simple process. Past that we need a little more background. P.S. Welcome aboard

Thanks, Yes it starts and runs like a champ. I drove it around the yard about 100 yrds or so and down shifted and it stoped moving, but, the motor stayed running, I can hear it change gears when i lift on the shifter or depress it, it just wont go in to gear and move.

gears

The gear shifter connects to the shift mechanism inside of the stator cover. Once iside the cover, you have a ratchet mechanism which connects to the drum shifter inside the engine case. Can you prop up the rear of quad, turn the quad tire manually, then shift from first-second-third-etc.. You should feel the difference of how much force to turn the tire with each change in gear. If you don't feel a difference, you problem may lie inside the engine case with the actual transmission. Can you feel any tension while shiffting your gears? You should be able to feel the ratcheting while you shift. Hope this helps a little.

ok, I can feel some resistance when i put it in gear, i can move up and down through the gears just fine, except it still wont move, I can put it in gear and still move the back wheels, and also to add a extra degree of dificulty the kick start doesnt seam to engage the motor. My guess is the splines on the end of the shaft opposite the end with the shift handle arent lined up right but i have no idea how to get them lined up. Thoughts??

300ex tranny issues

If you don't have a manual, I suggest you look into getting one. Or maybe I could down load some sheets from the manual. The kick shaft has a little dot or punch mark on it , when you put on the kicker cam, there is a punch mark on it as well-line up the punch marks!!!!! then you can throw on the cam spring-then install clutch cover. Let me know if you need any more help. Fortunately, I think your gonna have to split the engine to fix the trans-yea it sucks, but thats how we learn the best by learning from our mistakes.I must have checked my trans 3-4 times, before I sealed up the engine, and still had to open her up one more time to fix. Good luck buddy.

dman i did get it fixed thanks, With this issue dad and i figured we could do some of the other little things that come up. Could you recommend the best manual to get, I am headed up to the top of the fourms to read the sticky in the repair section about manuals, but figured i would drop a note here and see if one is bette then the other... thanks again, and we did learn, next time the starter needs to be rebuilt, hold the shift shaft in when taking the left hand side cover off.... like you say we learn from our mistakes.... thanks again tracy
