I have a 1999 TRX 300 and destroyed the rear end. The bearing went bad real quick and presto... rear end go bye bye. Anyway the local market is way overpriced and hard to find a parts bike that has a compatible rear end. I know 1988 to 2000 2WD or 4WD will work, but again the pickings are slim where I live.

What other machines have a similar rear end that will bolt right up? At this point I would be willing to even do a little fabrication work if need be. I will NOT however pay the near $1000 bucks the dealer wants to get this bad boy up and running again. A local guy told me some 3 wheeler rear ends would bolt up, but he didn't know for sure.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

New Guy

Welcome to the forums. None of the other rear ends will bolt up, other than the '88-'00 Fourtrax 300. You can use the '86-'89 350 Fourtrax/Foreman, but it don't bolt straight up. You have to use the rear diff and axle tubes, but there is some fab work involved. I think the 250 Big Red 3-wheeler rear end can be fabbed to work also.

Thanks for the help!
You're welcome. You can find more info about the conversion on the High Lifter forums. Some of the guys over there have done the conversion and there's even some pictures floating around over there.

Honda engine compatibility

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have a very similar question. I have a 1994 TRX300 with a great engine but no rear end. I found a 2003 TRX350 at an auction that I'm thinking of buying, but it has a bad engine. Any chance my 1994 engine will work in the 2003?

Not without modifications to the engine mounts..There's rear ends for sale out there, you just have to look further out from yourself for a complete parts atv,or a used atv salvage dealer maybe...The problem is that the 300 has been around so long, and been a hard abused machine that greatly helped earn Honda its reputation, and so many rear diffs have been destroyed, and replaced with used diffs (due to Hondas high parts cost) that the selection is getting slimmer every day...So,if you run across any complete 300 atvs buy them even if they are halfway stripped down as they're fast becoming hard to find even in salvage yards as other than a stripped clean frame....

Welcome to the forums. Since the 300 uses the older straight mounted engines and the '03 uses a longitudinally mounted engine, it would take a lot of fabricating to make it work. It's a completely different engine design and just wouldn't be practical to try to use, in my opinion.
