TRX 300 FW Front CV Shaft Replacement

Hi -

I'm going to change both front cv shafts as one is shot and the other has a bad boot. The manual references using a "ball joint puller", I've used one of these a car before, but is it a requirement for this job?

Thanks for the help.

I've never had to use one. It would just make it easier.

Do you guys know if I need to apply grease to the gears at each end of the CV Shaft?
If you are talking about the splines, then yes, just a light coat on the splines.

I just got the complete cv shafts I ordered on ebay. This procedure requires removal of the brake panel bolts and tie-rod ball joint nuts and the manual states re-use of these bolts is strictly prohibited.

Anyone know why Honda recommends not re-using these bolts?

I think because of safety issues. Personally, I always reuse them, but I can't recommend it, because of safety issues. LOL. So reuse at your own risk.
