my 300 has been running poorly for a while, I replaced with a new carburetor and it cranked and run fine. I still have one issue I had before, it runs perfect during the day, but if I'm after dark or late afternoon it does not want to run? One other thought, I run it with a dead battery for a while but not at night.

does " after dark or late afternoon " mean the lights are on or have been on , when it doesn't want to run ?

Did you ever try putting a meter on the battery with the engine running to see if it is charging ?

You'll need to put a good battery in it to get reliable spark and to prevent regulator/rectifier and/or stator failures. Don't start it again until the battery has been replaced. Check the charging voltage after the new battery is in it to make sure nothing got fried.
