Here is the wiring diagram for 1995-2000 Honda Fourtrax 300 utility. Sorry, I don't have one for 1990.

I went to the honda shop and they said the control module hardly ever goes bad ,but I am not getting fire to the plug any ideas? what does the diode do?
and they don't know thier bikes then !!!..lol..they do go out..they just dont give you any kind of warning..except when your motor won't fire up and run..lol..the diode controls the neutral light some how..it's wired inline to the light..if your not getting a neutral light after checking all your leads from your neutral switch..try putting a paper clip in place of the diode..if your light comes on then after all your other wires and switches are good..then your diode is bad..oh..also your bike won't fire unless your c.d.i knows it's in neutral.

I agree with Shadetree. On the Fourtrax 300, the CDI (ignition control module) is the most common part of the ignition system to go out, in my experience anyway.

i have a 96 honda that wont start it will crank but no spark any suggestions?
You should start your own topic, it will get more exposure that way, but, to make a short answer of your question:

1. Get the service manual for your quad.
2. Another good place to start is this very old manual (HONDA COMMON SERVICE MANUAL), that explains in more detail, the proper way of testing, identifying problems: (note: this manual may or may NOT relate your atv)

http://www.vf750fd.com/vf750f/Honda_Common_Service_Manual.pdf

Scroll down to chapter 23 - IGNITION SYSTEMS

by the way, according to many people on this site, and many others, even though the manual says that the CDI can be tested, the only way to verify it, is with a known good unit. That's what the honda shop did with my son's quad. I had a TRX250 that would run for about 2 minutes, and foul the plug. NO spark. Ended up being the CDI box.
