Hi I was hoping someone could help a newbie out here. My 06 TRX 250 won't start, I can jump the starter relay with a wrench and it runs great all day just fine. Is there an easy way to troubleshoot this? I dont really want to pay a mechanic if I dont have to. Also is there an electrical schematic available online?
thank you in advance.

OK, I did some further testing and the solenoid and start switch is good. I applied 12v to the solenoid and it energized and I read good continuity across the main terms. I also took a continuity reading on the start switch at the disconnect plug and that also read good continuity when switch was depressed. Any other things that I can check?

Welcome to the forums. If you are jumping the solenoid with a wrench and it starts, more than likely, the solenoid is bad. When you jump those two posts, it sends power straight to the starter. What you're actually doing is bypassing the solenoid.

Try this link for a wiring diagram.

Find the two small wires running to the solenoid, one is hot and the other is ground. I don't remember the colors, but probe the hot wire with the test light or back probe the hot wire where it goes into the plug and ground the other end of the test light. Now, turn the key on and push the start button and see if the test light, lights up. Then you will know if you're getting power from the start button to trigger the solenoid.

ADDED: I forgot to ask if the neutral light is coming on.

i just got a honda 350trxtm rancher i was ridding then it just cut off i pull the spark plug and put the boot back on turn it over no spark on plug can the coil just go bad like that
It's possible, but it could also be your CDI or pulse generator or stator. I would try a new plug first.

helmut you hit it right it was a blown ignetion fuse what would cause that i replaced it and it started right up but why would it just blow what is the cause o thanks dude your awsome
are you running any extra lights ??.did you up your light bulb wattage ? .if your drawing to many amps from your battery or alternator..this could cause fuses to blow.

LOL. I'm glad you got it fixed, but I believe it was Moose that suggested checking the fuses. I don't really know what would cause it to blow the ignition fuse, unless you have a short somewhere. Hopefully, it won't blow again. If it does, you will have to trace the problem down and I would start by tracing the wire from the fuse and check the wire for chafed places that may have rubbed against the frame.

Agree with Shadetree and also, do you have a winch or any other accessory wired into the ignition circuit. If so, they might have caused it to blow.

Hey, I am new to this forum and was reading from a while ago about a Trx with the same problem as mine if you could help me out i would really appreciate it

So, I bought an 01 Trx with an ignition issue, the kid had it running with the junky ignition that he took apart and jumped the two contacts, but it would not start on the button only if you jumped the starter from the battery, the battery is full charged, solenoid is good and the starter is good, so I bought a new one and installed it and the neutral light on the dash still won't come on and the button is dead still... Any ideas? Thank you so much!

the ignition switch is bad, or did you replace it ?, if you replaced it with a new switch ?, then you did not hook it back up right ?, or..your not getting power to it, or out of it ?.

I did replace the switch, its wired correctly, and im not getting power to anything on the dash
ok, check your fuses back at the battery, clear case, glass fuse, it's prob blown ?, with a 12 volt test light, you can see if you have power going in, and out the other side of the fuse ?. also check to make sure the cables on the battery are tight on the battery and starter solenoid as well ?.

There isn't any glass fuses at the battery and the solenoid is good, battery cables are tight. You can start the quad and run it just fine if you jump the starter to battery, I just have no life on my dash, thanks for the help
