TRX 125 Owners or Anyone

Okay. I just trouble shot a couple of things with my 86 125. If some of you don't know or remember, after i got my 86 125 going, it ran well for about a month. Then after that, I started having trouble shifting in and out of gear. I would shift and the engine would sound powerful, yet I was moving at a snails pace. BTW, I'm not a big guy, so that rules that out. Anyway, I tried trouble shooting it and it mentioned that engine speed does not charge when clutch is released. It says that it decreases. Well, like I said it creeps along. Anyway, it said that the (1) the clutch is slipping, (2) has a worn clutch disc/plate, or (3) a warped clutch disc / plate. I figured that 29 years of running that the clutch is probably worn. Well, my question is, would the clutch (shifter) actually cause it to slow down? I'm still new to ATV's and rebuilds. Just want to get things right. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Jack

the change clutch is where you get your power transferred from the pto clutch ( centrifugal clutch ). if the disk are shot ?..it will slip or not move big time !.
and this does not rule out the posb of the clutch not adjusted right ?????????????.
Okay, so the first thing I need to do is adjust the clutch. On the black plate from the outside correct. Or will I need to adjust from inside?

out side, right hand cover, large outer lock nut, center screw, words on case decrease with arrows going one way ?..increase with arrows pointing the other way.
"it mentioned that engine speed does not charge when clutch is released"

What does that mean? Where do you figure you're releasing a clutch?

What engine oil are you using?
Ballast. Good to hear from you man. You missin' your 125 yet? Anyway, I read that out of the 85-86 manual as I was trouble shooting it. I was assuming that the clutch was part of the shifting. As for the engine oil I'm using the 10w-40 for ATV's. Since it is a foot shifter, just having troubles shifting both up and down shifting. Also, engine sounds strong, but not much movement. There at the end, there was none. No speed changes through any of the gears. Early on there were, but not anymore.
yeah Jacklegg I liked the 125. Lots of old farts around here motor around in these electric scooters, I was hoping to keep the 125 as a much cooler ride when I eventually have to go to THE HOME. ATVs are allowed on local roads in my town. Unfortunately I thought the CDI was failing so it was time to go while it still ran.

As for your problem, I haven't a clue, sorry.
I hear ya. I think that I might have it figured out. Maybe. Gonna try it when I get home and see what happens. Looks like my battery might be going bad, so I'll have to charge that and see whats up with that. Got a little hiccups need to fix and then hopefully she'll be ready.
