Are you sure the 88 had brake lights? There will be a switch connected to the foot brake if it did. My 91 250X didn't

I'm pretty sure the '88 didn't have brake lights, but he's probably talking about the taillight.

yeah that's what I was thinking, there should be a brown wire somewhere back there then right Helmut?

Yeah, the hot wire going to the taillight should be brown.

I got an 86 TRX125 and it just has a tail light. It comes off an on/off switch on the left handgrip. Mine had same problem, I pulled the tail light, cleaned the contacts in the bulb socket, and the bullet connectors the tail light plugged into. Poof, now I had a working tail light.
