Hey guys. Bought my TRX300 used and the previous owner was a tinkerer who welded on a trailer hitch plate but didn't do a very good job. The plate is welded on at a pretty good downward angle. This was not an issue with all the trailers I've had in the past because the wheels on them were all 13 or 14 inches in diameter so the angle never came into play. Just got a trailer with 16 inch wheels though and it's now an issue. The trailer tongue is super low and just doesnt roll right. I'm thinking of trying to bend it upwards somehow or grinding it off completely and getting another hitch plate. Any suggestions?

Cut it off and bolt a stock hitch on to the axle Would seem the easiest solution.

cut it off with an angle grinder?
Yes indeed, just be careful around the stock mountings, you want those to be left intact if you don’t have a welder.

I might just weld a receiver tube on top what you got , like in my pic above ^ I have three different offsets of hitch that go into mine , the hook is in the pic , it slides out and you put what ever you want in it , I prefer the small tube hitch and not the bigger one

Thanks much. I would have never been able to figure that out on my own. Ran into another issue now though. I tried screwing some bolts into the mounting holes just to see and couldn't get any of them to grab. I tried about 6 different sizes so it has to be the actual threads in the mounting holes. I've attached a pic. Couldn't get them t work on the bottom holes either. If you look at the pics the one hole doesn't appear to have threads in at all anymore. Any ideas? Thanks.

All I can suggest is to drill and tap to the next size up. I can’t remember off hand what size they are stock, any idea @fishfiles ?

I believe they are 12mm threads . what a butcher job !

you can tell that rear end in the pics is a atc250es as it has the extra flange , next to the swing arm mount , alls balls decal on the axle tube tells all ----- so the pics of the , what looks like , a 300 rear end center section hitch , isn't in the pic of the rear end , and he is trying to cut what ever is ( weld ? ) to the rer end off and put that piece on , but the threads of the hole for the stock hitch are gone ? ----get another tube I'd guess

Haha.. If rear ends cost you £300 a time you’d be tapping those threads to :)
I forget sometimes that spares are plentiful over your way, rear ends don’t come by often over here, when they do they cost a tidy packet.

from that pic you posted , the threads are gone , maybe you could go up a size , what is going to be hard about re-tapping that hole is the depth , it is very shallow , you would have to have a bottoming tap and drilling to the next size is going to hard , I have ran a tap to clean the threads on that same tube many times , but chasing the threads is a lot easier than rethreading them ------------ if the threads are gone , I think the easiest thing would be to change the tube , but then you need to weld another bracket for the swingarm mount ----just weld what ever you want for a hitch right to the tube

Yeah, I don't weld. It's not worth all that for an inch or two. I'll just have to make it work as is. I wonder if I could somehow get it to bend upwards that inch or two to make it level. Maybe heat and a hammer?
