I am looking into 3 possible trail bikes the TRX700XX, 400ex, or a foreman. I really would like a sport bike but im semi-scared about buying one since all of my previous ATV's have been utility which is why i am thinking about a foreman possibly. I am currently leaning to the 700XX with a 13 tooth front sprocket since it has IRS. However i keep thinking the foreman may be the best since it is a utility. However i dont go through really any mud or things like that so a 400ex and a 700xx should work fine, im just apprehensive about spending money on something i wont like. So i ask you guys as a trail bike only which of these would you go with?

I would go with the Foreman, but that's just my opinion. Some of the trails I ride can get pretty rough.

Do you want a machine that you CAN go 70 mph if you wanted? The sport machine is going to be a much more fun ride(IMO). I would go with the 700XX. Plenty of power on tap for any situation you may come across. The 700XX can and will go ANY WHERE that a Foreman can go.

Either the 400ex or the 700xx would work good for your trails.

I agree with Billy and if you check around for some left over models they will be priced around the same.
Yep already done that found a 08 700xx and 400ex each for 4500 new and a 09 foreman for 5000 new. So the are all around the same price just wondering which would suite my trail riding the best. Sold my KX 250 recently so i want something with a little speed with it as well as being a good trail bike. Although i know none of them could come close to that things speed.

I'm going to have to disagree with that.

Minus deep mud. But I have yet to see somewhere here in Colorado that a 4x4 quad can get up(without a winch) that I can't get up on my 450. And that is with 4" of ground clearance. I feel confident in my abilities that I can get a 2 wheel drive quad up anything(within the realm of reality). I have bounced my quad up some NASTY rock faces and get nothiing but wierd looks from the 4x4 guys. My wife puts the Rhino to the test and I go every where she does...

So with the right rider, yes the XX can go anywhere a foreman can.

There's some steep mountains in KY, where I live, that it wouldn't go either. Steep mountains, straight up, and washed out where water runs down and creates ditches and ruts. And wet dirt and rocks and fallen trees and logs. It might go in some places where you could get a run at the hill, but a lot of places you can't get a run, plus you have to run over trees and ride them over and a lot of places where I ride don't even have trails. No way the 700XX can go where a Foreman can.

in the 700's defense (i just now found out about the thing) it has decent ground clearance of 10.5 compared to 4.5 of a 450r so i think it could make it thru some trails with fallen trees and what not (i do alot of riding like too) BUT would you wanna take a sport 4 wheeler thru stuff like that. i use my brush guards like crazy running into all kinds of things, i have even fliped it over a few times trying to go thru some crazy trails. i dont think you would want to do that to a sport quad, but a utility on the other hand............

but if its just flat, pretty smooth trails, i would opt for the 700xx. but i would not necessarily say it could go anywhere a forman could, or if it can not with near as ease as the forman. say up a stream with some decent size rocks, might be tuff on a sport quad, not to mention having to work the clutch all the time.

but not everybody has the same riding habits/terrain.

haha, i have no fear in going just about any where on my 300.

but it all comes down to your riding style, i would not want to take a sport quad some of the places i go, and i dont think they could make it some places (mud) but others rather do it on a sport quad. its all in your preference.

i think the question is, no which one would be better, but what is your riding style.
