Monday , last week I got up about 5 minutes to 2:00AM and couldn't go back to sleep and sat at my desk which has a surveillance camera monitor right in front of me , Tv on the right and internet on the left , if anything thing happens on video it will grab your attention even if you are not looking right at it , at 2:08am I seen headlights turn the corner of my street , a truck pulling a car dolly trailer stops just short of my driveway , the guy immediately gets out and walks away from my driveway culverts to the neighbors driveway at the property line to cross the ditch and goes into my yard and right to my boat on the left side , then goes to the right side where the 3 month old new batteries are and goes to working on unhooking them , while this was going on I grabbed a q-beam and a 9mm with 15 in it , went out and lit him up with the light , told him don't move and asked what is it he is looking for , he actually tried to hide behind the boat , I told him I seen him since he turned the corner and he was on film the entire time on three different cameras , he says he is looking for his cousins house , I tell him to come out , got my hand on the gun in my back pocket , I never pointed it at him as it is a thin line on what you can and can't do as far as pointing a gun at someone that is unarmed , I didn't know at the time if he was or wasn't , there have been cases here where the home owners was charged with assault for holding someone down with a gun , if they are inside the house the rules change , so he comes out and I scared him so much he peed on himself , typical druggie holding his winnie with pee running down his leg and crying that he was lost looking for his cousin's house to see his new boat , he looked and sounded stoned , never seen him before , so he tries to walk towards me and I have my arm in a triangle on the gun behind my back and the Xezon light in his eyes blinding him , so he knew I was packing , when I told him that was close enough or you might get hurt any closer, he stopped in his tracks , I should have called the sheriff as soon as he stepped foot on my property , but I didn't and then after stopping him , he never stole anything yet so what where they going to do him for attempted burglary , so all the commotion , q-beam lights in the street and the dog barking woke my neighbor , so he comes out and says I wouldn't have let him go , so I got in my truck and followed him , he went the wrong way and had a hard time turning around with the trailer and I blocked him in , I told him I called the sheriff and they were on their way , but I lied , so in the end I let him go again ------ then the next day my school bus owner/driver sends me a link to the Sheriff's web page on FaceBook and the same truck was in pics robbing a house 50 miles away , so I called the sheriff the next day and told them I had video of that truck in a attempted burglary , have not heard anything yet if the caught him

When something happens like that , are you really ready for what you would do , I was half sleeping , happened so quick you don't have time to think about it

Did the police ask for the video file you captured of the truck/suspect? The answer to that will tell you how serious they are about catching him. If he had murdered someone you can bet an officer would have been at your door asking for it within 30 minutes.

Double'D , funny you should say that ------ they wanted to come right out and get a copy of it , but I called them from my truck while driving to work that same morning , they said someone would contact me after 5:00PM when I said I would for sure be home , but it never happened ---- from what I heard , they were onto him and his crew already and I hope he is in jail by now

I have been some what in this situation a coup,e times over the yrs
I have held a person at gun point till cops arrived and I have also handcuffed and held a person till police came(I have my own cuffs, keep some at home and in my vehicle)
most all times cops have been very thankful for me catching who ever I did, and only questions I have really ever gotten was WHY did I have hand cuffs
which I have due to I was in law enforcement training, and after so many yrs of running in to bad folks, I decided to just carry them, have again caught several bad folks including some being chased by the police!

I have currently been wander the local woods some behind my place , where currently there is a top 10 most wanted person on the loose, been eluding the police now for over a month and has been seen 4 times now in the past week, less than 3 miles from me in local woods!
he has a 20 reward on his a$$

Personally Fish and not bashing on you, you really should have called the cops, as IMO< odds are that was not the first time he was doing what he was doing, and others maybe were not so lucky to have caught him and stopped them before he stole things off them
I HATE crooks, so I would never let one go if I had em red handed in front of me
MAYBE nothing would have happened legally, as can be hard to prove if he didn't have anything in his posession
but he would know I didn't screw around, and well, word travels, so could come back to save you aggravation down the road?

I don't know what your laws are down your way, so that might make a difference, when your packing a gun and confronting folks
but here in PA< we have stand your ground laws that help you on YOUR land, not perfect as loop holes in all laws de[end on how good someone's lawyer is LOL
but I have yet to end up in trouble during my encounters! but do keep what I am doing to what I know I legally can, and have again, a little more experience in that area than some others!
glad no one got hurt and you didn't get anything stolen
hope they catch him soon too, as idiots like that don't stop till they have too!

We really need to go back to hanging thieves. Even with you scaring the crap out of him, he just rolled on down the road and robbed someone else.

If stealing had real consequence this crap would stop, one way or the other.
Jeep I fully agree with you, public punishments IMO would also be a great way to make some towns some money, selling tickets tio hangings and or ??
I couldn;t imagine how much $$$ say TV new shows would pay to see it, and or other people in general.
people pay large amounts for every other show/event that happens and I think humans in general are overly newsy as is! this would be a pack event!!

SO, rather than costing tax payers billions a yr to house criminals that are waiting on death row to get there punishment carried out.
why not, deal out the actual punishment and MAKE some darn $$ as well to help off set the costs of housing them! give the darn tax payers a break already some how?/ I gather this would also deter a LOT more criminals too, I don;t care what anyone says, FEAR of punishment DOES work
to deter something from happening if the punishment is strict enough, and will work on MOST normal people, will always be exceptions to any rule, but the system we have now, NO one seems really scared of any punishments we dish out these days!
due to how few things get carried out any more and all the loop holes in your system!

Wow that is a crazy story. Never been in a situation even remotely close to that. I would like to say I would be a tough guy, etc, but until I was actually in the situation I have no idea how I would respond. My life is pretty good, and I have a lot to lose so I'm sure that would factor into my thought process.

At least there are rules enabling you guys to confront thieves and be armed, situations like this in the U.K. get nasty FAST. Technically you shouldn’t confront them, even though their trespassing and eyeing up your property to steal! Police don’t want to know until a crime has been made. If you go ahead and bash the thief with a big stick, the thief gets off and you get arrested for GBH or assault!

Scary situation Fish, glad it ended well without the use of force from the thief or yourself, it could have been a whole lot worse. Let’s hope they’ve caught up with him and put him in the slammer!

Fish, please check your state law. Here in Texas you can shoot a person if it's dark. You can also make a citizens arrest under certain circumstance. I know this because I got certified for a level four armed security and personally protection officer to do some part time work during my slow months. A police officer is the only person that can enforce the law with just a few provisions for citizens arrest. The only authority I have as a level four commissioned officer is the same any citizen has.

Fish, another thing that has helped me. I got the "Texas Law Shield" insurance for Licensed to carry and my armed security work. There was a book on Texas gun law that was available too. It is very helpful because it gives the law and scenarios to explain the nuances of the law.

Tricky situation , the wife was mad at me for going outside and she was sleeping , it all went down right outside the bed room window and she never even woke up , dogs barking , very loud talking , it was best she was sleeping

you know , he could have had a gun , I should have had mine pointing at his chest soon as I walked out the door , it was like I was giving him the draw on me , just to possibly protect myself from being charged with something , a guy I know a couple of years back shot a 17 year old in the head with a .45 at 15 ft and the kid lived , the kid was robbing his shed , he had made numerous reports of stolen items in the weeks previous , said he thought he had something in his hand , I thought for sure he was going to have a lot of trouble , it cost him a lot but he didn't get in trouble , lost his job with the city because of it ---------- I had fired 100 rounds of .22 in the same frame gun and 50 out the same gun just days before , I would like to think out of 15 I could have had 10 in his tee shirt ---- but that brings up another point around here , don't empty the gun on them , it seems to change everything when that happens , you are not suppose to try and kill them just put them down , once they are down then they are no longer a threat , I don't get that one , I guess I watch too many movies ----- I know it is very important to say the right things the first time after it happens , hope I never have to go thru it

we have stand your ground , but you need to feel threatened and not provoke it

I am with mrb, I would have called the police right when that person stepped foot on my property !. then I would have held him there until they got there. let the law work it out from there. you got him on camera messing with your batteries, thats attempted theft, tress passing, enough to have him go to jail.

the trespassing thing here has different views , sometimes it goes both ways ----------- I have signs , but only have fence on two sides , I have been told that without fence completely around and gates closed with no trespassing signs posted , that they won't charge them with trespassing ------------------ unless you know somebody LOL

I will call if it ever happens again

yeah its a tricky world we live in anymore, where criminals have almost more rights than law biding citizens
as well law biding citizens, have/DO follow laws and well criminals don't. giving them an upper hand I fear anymore
as for shooting a person, I won't give any advice here
but this too is tricky,a s even JUST pointing a gun at someone can be see as an illegal action, as your are endangering a person by doing so, its a lot to do with pending the circumstances of what caused the gun to come out, but as soon as a gun is out its issue that can have legal penalties

old saying USED to be dead people cannot sue you, when shooting used to happen, was a wink wink deal on making sure that's how the outcome came out, but these days, that is a useless idea, as family members just sue instead LOL

the NRA is actually pushing insurance these days that sort of covers you if your ever in a shooting, something like what police officers have while working for a dept!
sad world we live in that again criminals have so many rights anymore, all the more so if the media gets on there side even a LITTLE

HAHA< I don't have any dogs anymore
but I do have bears in my yard almost every day and many times many hours out of the day there here, all different hours day and night

as a fact UPS guy yesterday was dropping off a package, and decided that my back porch was a better place to leave a box than my front and when he came round the back, a bear was laying on back deck next to the door, , he about crapped his pants trying to run away LOL
funny part was I was outside and he seen me AFTER he seen the bear and stopped at his truck and waited for me to get box off him, and asked me if I knew there was a bear on my deck!
I said, YEAH she lays there all the time, I think it makes her feel special to be up high and can over look things and take a break
told him she doesn't bother me being there, and been doing this for yrs now
he then told me from now on he will ONLY leave things at my front door LOL

so, not all things to scare away folks need to bark !

There are a lot of people who want to do that here too Sam.

We are going full Chamberlain when we need Churchill. The UK desperately needs to stop it's slide in the wrong direction as well.

That is why our 2nd Amendment is so important. Ultimately, if things continue to move in the direction they have been, the decent people still not only have the means to protect themselves, but also the means to revolt. I hope it never comes to that, but I will never give up my means to do so.

That's funny, since my UPS driver posted this on FB a couple of days ago.
